Name a profession that is portrayed as noble and self-sacrificing, but is really not more special than any other job.

I'll start: nurse.

Engineers.

Gun instructors.

People who talk about their service in the military, when they were never deployed.

Let's see how many people I piss off

They're right up there with crossfit people and vegans. It's like they can't keep from talking about it.

My BIL is a Dr. He's a pretty good guy but I swear people act like he's bringing people back from the dead every day. We were working on something one time and my mom chimed in "Be careful of Alex's hands, we don't want him getting hurt." I looked at her and asked if she thought I made money with my good looks.

The vast majority of my friends & family have engineering degrees - in all the conversations over the years no one has ever claimed to have become an engineer for noble reasons. It's always about the engineering job market.

Sometimes, she isn't even pressing the keys.  Just tapping them enough to sound like typing.

I was pretty much coming to say that in general most of the people in any "noble" profession are just there doing their jobs and that the nobility was generally earned by those that either preceded them or are the truly exceptional in their profession.

I think the real question is, what's an actual noble profession?

It's not the profession that's noble, it's the person.

All of them.  People go to work because of money and sometimes it gives them personal satisfaction.  But ain't no one sacrificing everything without some sort of benefit.

Doctor -- fat, stinky, unhealthy behaving, gross people with diseases.

Social Justice Worker -- phonies who claim virtue by supposedly helping other people but are generally just socialists pushing their agenda.

Teacher -- a bunch of entitled whiners who think their profession deserves to be a monopoly.

Fire Fighters -- basically OD/drunk and old-people government ambulance/first aid workers who also know how to point a hose at stuff.  Should be a short term gig for strong young people, not a lifelong entitlement with absurd pension benefits.

DOCTOR ALL DAMN DAY

you can demand full compensation for complete failure, you only talk to your customer for 3-5 min and they think you're God, and you can treat people like cattle and they have no recourse

I know there are some doctors that don't do this most of them are concierge/private practice and they probably aren't taking new patients.  Good luck finding a good doc at a big box hospital...rare breed.

At best they're taking money and selling an afterlife fairy tale.  You're literally paying for nothing.  At worst they're ass raping little boys while the church hierarchy covers it up.

FF have power

Someone needs to tell that to the LEOs that keep arresting us for blocking traffic to keep cars from running over people laying in the streets at accident scenes. Oh and we have never arrested anyone or threaten to. No in the dept. I work with in Fla. Where do you get this power thing from. We have none.

Hell yeah the perks that's with any job symbol did you not ever play fire fighter as a little boy, this one I'm a little confused on. Are you pissed because a firefighter stole your girlfriend because you still live in that basement at moms home. Get a life.  FF fight fire and are Paramedics and have died trying to save peoples lifes that's a bad symbol to you.

40%.......I would say maybe 10% do it for what you say in the beginning. Until they realize it's more than that after they start seeing the dead bodies from accidents and patients. You then see a change in their attitudes. It affects all of these men and wmen after awhile.  It stops being a game and becomes very serious when you get toned out.

I've never been impressed by any regular old doctor. Surgeons however are worthy of admiration IMO. The skill set required to cut somebody wide open, move things around in there and then sew them back up without killing them is remarkable when you think about it.

You are correct. I work with quite a few that are just here for the pension and insurance and don't give a rats ass about the job. Not that I wouldn't leave if those things were taken away but I enjoy what I do most days.
