I can also now report that oven baked steak fries are almost magically easy to make and yummy.

That killed 4 potatoes

Not going to read four pages to see if this has been posted, but if you've never smelled a rotting potato you cannot believe how bad they stink.

Reefer on the dock in Tacoma went out on a sea van containing several thousand pounds headed to Asia. The stench was unbelievable...longshore refused to clean it up...think we ended up hiring some kind of toxic waste disposal company come in at huge expense to cart it off.

No idea about onions, but you best deal with those potatoes most ricky-tick.

Nice!  Thank you Alton Brown for posting that.

Potatoes and onion should be stored separately of each other, but both need a cool, dry, dark place with good ventilation.

Fry some bacon.
Slice taters and fry them when the bacon is almost done...

Since I'm already geared up for it, I'd can the potatoes and dehydrate the onions.  YMMV.

Could always post them on Craigslist and trade for imitation crab meat.

Bake the onion skin on, just like a potato. Then pop it out of the skin and eat it with butter, salt, and pepper.

Bake it in the fireplace / wood stove, it has been a bit cold the last few nights and once I got coals in the woodstove, they bake potatoes very nicely. Wrap them in alum foil.

Cut the potatoes in wedges, season, line baking sheet with parchment paper, and bake at 425 for 15-20.  Turning over mid point.

Throw away the rice.

Cut the onion in wedges and place in aluminum foil.  Place garlic and butter in with onion and close up foil in a  ball.  Grill for 30 minutes.

Burger...make patties.
