I actually like the CARB compliant can (with push button spout) for filling mix gas tools.

But it's bullshit for anything bigger.

These nozzles are the best. Their cans suck and split at the seams within a year. (If they ride around in the back of the truck and get used daily)

I bought one of these as my VP racing can had a little “incident”. This is the first of the cheaper gas cans I e ever had that doesn’t make me rage.  Works damn good.

For vents, I've always drilled a 1/2" hole and installed a metal tire valve stem with the valve core removed.

I bought a 2.7gal and 5 gal "Tuff Jug" with ripper cap, and it's the best can I've ever used.

For the vent, you need a very specific drill bit or they will leak. I believe it is 31/64" or something similar. I have a few and some vents I can sell if anyone needs them.

Cheaper jugs will have lids that eventually split. Buy the name brands and buy the filler hose with valve and cap.

I have 4 that I use when I need to drain and drop a fuel tank.

I like the large OD flexible spouts for my diesel cans.   They had rigid nozzles before and it really $$ucked when one snapped off and fell down into my kubota fuel tank.

I use Rural King brand of these mostly. I do have an EPA can with the lever on the nozzle that actually works fairly well for filling my mower, but nothing else. I also have several of the old round metal cans with rubber spouts that I use for ethanol free and two stroke gas.

What's busy about it?

It has a spout with a valve and a fill hole.

They'll outlast a plastic can by 5x as long.

Those suck too, compared to nato cans, nato cans take up less space as they are thinner, no valve to hold open while pouring, etc.I have one like you pictured, while it’s much better than the plastic Walmart cans, i like the nato cans much better, but it’s great if that’s your only gas can and you don’t need to tote a bunch of gas cans , store them, etc.

Why?

Mine get moved around all the time in trucks and trailers.

We are required to have safety cans, and they are the best available.

For personal use... I leave the $15 plastic ones in the bed. I'd be more pissed about the gas if someone needed it more than me.

Those safety cans are the shizzy for home storage though. Stacking isn't an issue when you pick up a used flammable cabinet for $100.

A smaller No Spill brand can is awesome for filling small engines.  A 5-gallon one can be a little unwieldy, depending on what you’re filling, or if you have strength issues.

For vehicles and the boat, I use 5-gallon VP Racing cans.

Every NATO can I have still spills a bit at first. I grabbed a 1-gallon plastic can to use solely with my saw. Surprisingly, the new plastic can doesn't spill anything, no drips, leaks, etc.

That is a very common complaint I hear about NATO cans.  Don’t know if it’s knockoff Chinese cans, or if it’s an inherent design flaw.  But that’s a no-go for me.  Any spillage not caused by my own screwup is not acceptable.

These work fine for the lawn mower.  But they really shine when you are gassing up a vehicle.  You can dump 5 gallons super fast no drip.

Yes, 31/64" is correct.  I bought a pack of vents on Amazon....they were cheap and work great.

They are tight, you have to use a hammer to seat them in.
