This is what a real rifle looks like. It is a Sako L-61 in .30-06.

First take note that it is not in some metrosexual caliber. It is in a serious manly caliber that means business.

Secondly there are no stamped, alloy or plastic parts on the rifle. Everything is forged, machined or milled. The stock is made of real walnut and not from recycled toothbrush handles or recycled sex toys.

Now take a look at the scope. It is a fixed 6x42 Meopta. It doesn't need silly doo dads such a picatinny rail or variable power. It is perfectly balanced, strong and reliable.

The stock features hand checkering and it was obviously crafted with pride. The metal is highly polished and beautifully blued. They don't blue rifles this way anymore because of namby pamby environmental regulations.

I've ordered a sling for this rifle and the sling will be a real 1907 sling made of leather and not some stupid nylon sling or some piece of three point foolishness.

So perhaps some of you young schmoes might learn something from this. But I doubt it.

In the meantime keep off my lawn.

I feel rather sorry for anyone so stuck in history they still shoot 30-06. You have my sympathy, if only slightly as being a member of an active gun board you should know better.

Great looking rifle. I'm finishing up a Mauser in .318 Westley Richards. Very nice piece of walnut for the stock. Open sights.
Don't pay any attention to the kids. They don't know a real rifle from a plastic gizmo.

The 7mm-08 is a great cartridge for ignorant people who have never heard of the 7mm Mauser.

The 1.5-5x scope is a great choice for an indecisive person who can never make up his mind

A nylon sling is very useful because you can always take it off the rifle and put it to work as a tie down strap for your truck.

The Winchester Model 70 is an excellent choice for someone who can't afford a real Mauser 98

I'd wager 30.06 has taken more deer and moose than any other caliber.  If you want it DRT at a distance, 30.06 still can't be beat.

Worse, its becoming a rich mans game or a monkey fuck on public land. A hell of a lot of good hunting land is locked up in leases and the retards get the public leftovers. Its becoming a lose-lose to even try to get into hunting unfortunately.

OP long ago I bought a used Sears Ted Williams model 53 which was a branded Winchester model 70. It was a 30-06 and I was a fool to sell it. It had a fixed 4 power scope-a Weaver if I remember right. This was in the mid ‘80s.
I miss that rifle.
And for the youth here the 30-06 can be loaded with a 110gr bullet up through a 220gr and can take every animal on the North American continent.

What I can't understand is a cartridge such as the .300 Pooper Scooper. The Pooper Scooper crowd are those who think that the .30-06 is obsolete.

"It's great and now you can have a .30 caliber in an AR platform"

If you need an AR in .30 caliber that's what the AR-10 is for.

Not familiar with the Sako classics.

Does it have controlled round feed?

I too, subscribe to the iron and wood classic forms of art and tools of sustenance.  Currently have only one ’06, had 3 not long ago. One went to a young man as his first big-game rifle. A very smooth M98 from the Sears variety, a Belgian FN receiver fitted with a chrome lined barrel. It will likely be good to go when he has a son or daughter to pass it on to.
Two 7X57,  -one semi custom Remington 721, and a Spanish M96 acquired in trade.  This was the result of years of trying to get satisfaction from four (4) different 7mm-08 weapons!

Nice rifle Fluffy!
