If you get one of these, I'd be interested in a thread on the purchasing process.

Whichever I could sell for the highest price, and buy a whole bunch of guns and ammo.
(snip)

Actually I'm planning on selling a lot of guns and ammo to finance mine, by importing one from the former East Germany. Lots of them there in mint shape, going for a song, incl. sea transport.

I plan to. I have to sell off a lot of stuff I don't use though to finance it: guns, masses of old unbuilt model kits, musical equipment, etc. One step at a time, while I research it.

So far looks to be a 6 to 10 K investment, incl. transport, from Germany to USA. More if I buy a Kuebel (NVA jeep).

There are companies which will do it all for you, incl. inspect the car top to bottom to make sure it's worth the trouble, then pay the owner and bring it to your door.

Cheapest way is just to fly over there, set up an account with the ADAC (German auto club) through AAA before you go for registration and insurance, get export license plates good for two weeks, then after you buy the car, drive it to Bremerhaven on my still-good German driver's license onto a roll-on/roll-off ferry and then have it transported on a flatbed from Newark, NJ, when it arrives to my house in MA. Trabants are all over 25 years old, so, no pollution BS with the EPA.

Maybe I'll get lucky and find one for sale in the USA. There's one on eBay, but they're asking way too much money, for what they're selling.
