Every year for as long as the McRib has been out, someone writes an article explaining that it's not really ribs.



People are still shocked and outraged over this.  





Myself?  I am no longer shocked and outraged that #1 anyone needs this explained to begin with and #2 this is news that is literally as old as I am, and is older than most people reading it.



Then again, anyone who is so fucking stupid that they would think McRib is *actual* rib probably does indeed need this to be explained to them year after year after year.

The yellow journalists got it wrong.  It is mostly pork shoulder and pork trimmings which includes outer rib meat.  Pork trimmings can include tripe, heart etc.



But pork heart is like any other heart muscle and very dark, it doesn't turn to a light color when cooked so it would make an off-color in the finished product.  



Tripe, especially pork tripe, would also cause off-flavor.  Anyone who has smelled the stench of menudo (the Spanish soup made with tripe) can attest to this foul odor.

i dont know what everyone is freaking out about.  Boneless "rib" patties have been around forever. Everyone knows hotdogs..bologna..and countless other products are made from scrap "meat"

Spanish soup?? Try Mexican, and im not sure where you buy your menudo but its not supposed to smell bad. Had that happen to me once at a hole in the wall, probably because the cooks failed to wash it well.

It's fish. Commercial fisherman invariably end up with a huge by-catch of non-target fish, such as gar, carp, buffalo, etc and they end up processed as 'fish sandwich' material.
