For those if you who don’t know, Tess Lancaster was attacked by 5 pit bulls while running for exercise in our neighborhood. God sent Abby Puckett, mail carrier and angel to Tess. She saw the dogs, was able to spray them with defense spray, get them off of Tess and pull her to safety. It is no exaggeration that she saved Tess’s life at risk to her own. Tess was flown from the scene to the Med. (Forever thankful for Air Evac). After many phone calls and prayer, I was allowed to go in and see her. She is strong and is trying to make the best of this, but I don’t want to minimize at all the trauma she has been through and will continue to deal with. I can not begin describe the damage that was done externally and I know that her soul has endured the same wounds her body has. I was asked to leave the room at 4:30 and wait outside until they were done cleaning her wounds and suturing. (At this point a surgery has not been scheduled.) Almost 5 hours have passed and they are still working on her. That should give you some idea of the scope of her injuries. My friend, Kris, checked on her for me and she is tolerating it well and I can only pray for her and wait to be by her side again. Please continue to pray. There is a long road ahead of us, but I can only pray the prayer I prayed earlier in the week, “Give us this day our daily bread”. An earlier update after she saw her daughter the first time. And I did confirm, this happened yesterday (Sunday) morning. I am finally with Tess Lancaster. She is joking with me. She is so strong and beautiful. She asked, “How did you get back here? They said you couldn’t come.” Me: I threw a fit Tess: I knew you would. Me: Would move heaven and earth and Fight through Covid for you. We are waiting on a plastic surgeon to come see us. I have asked for a particular one but They said they can’t promise anything. Please pray that whoever it is, that they will work miracles with God’s hand on theirs. I will update as I can. I apologize if I don’t get to text or message everyone back. I’ll read every one. I love you. God is Good. So thankful for what He has already accomplished. Help for today, Lord. Evidently these dogs had been a problem in the neighborhood. From my friend... Her mother also references this in her update. "This girl that was attacked, her family and others had complained to the police about the irresponsible pit bull owners in their neighborhood. I’m glad the letter-carrier has pepper spray and got her to safety!" My God.. If that was one of my daughters.. I would be hunting both dogs and owners with deadly vengeance.. If you can get them to stop yawning they might drive through in a few hours and check the box. Then something like this happens and no one is accountable for not doing their jobs. They don't hold still, and there's a good chance that by the time you've deployed that gun, at least ONE of them is on you, biting you or someone you love....meaning it's going to be a melee. Aim, capacity to aim, and clear-headed shots may (or more directly WILL) be a luxury. Any miss still leaves a good possibility you're getting mauled or dead...unless you get lucky and the shots disperse them, but I'd not count on a pit to give up the fight. Moar ammo. BTW, dog and I were attacked by a pit on the street, while another one advanced on us, and had to go hot, so I'm not speaking out of internet know-nothing-itis. It's frantic, fast, and scary as fuck. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. ETA: Those are great guns, and against 2-legged folks? I'd sport one. |

Troof, I made TWO complaints against the pits that attacked me and my dog, and absolutely nothing was done. They chased me down (thank god I got to a pickup bed before they did), and then another time I watched them chase a woman on a bike nearly wrecking her. Both potentially violent/deadly encounters, gave them the house and accurate descriptions. Nothing, didn't even respond. Fuck the government, in any and all forms, btw. They showed up when there was a pit laying in a pool of its own blood and shots were fired, so I guess there is a threshold.

In the 90s my parents lived on an isolated cul de sac that had a neighbor who had 3 pit bulls that always got out and terrorized the neighborhood. One day I went by to feed my parents dog and I see the tiniest girl sitting terrified on top of a Toyota that was parked on the swale. She had gotten of early from school and on her way home was chased by the dogs. She had been on the car for hours and being a working class neighborhood, no one noticed her until I happen to pass by. I walked her to my parents, got her a Gatorade, and called the cops (no cell phone) They didn’t do anything, like the previous times neighbors had called. Every single time the dogs were back in their yard tired out by the time animal control or LE arrived. A couple of weeks later cops came around because the dogs were found floating in their owners pool, each shot with a .22 My stepdad said some of the neighbors told the cops that they didn’t know about the dogs even though they had filed complaints previously. I think the old Cajun lady down the street killed them but no one said a word. |

Pitt Bull owners typically say you shouldn’t demonize and ban all pits any more than you should ban all guns, but I disagree... - Guns don’t choose to kill, dogs do. - 80%+ of dog attacks seem to be pits, or at least the fatal ones. You can predict it with the same accuracy as whirlstar. Yes, there are good sweet pits, but it is not a breed anyone should be allowed to own. At minimum, a license, fee, and maybe insurance should be required. Yep, some are rolling their eyes I’m sure, but you wanna play with fire you can’t control, you should have to pay to play. |

And if the dogs are in their yard when AC arrives, there nothing they can do about them until they leave the yard . Total BS. Nearby neighbor had 2 pits . Both had been used for fighting and he " rescued " them . They escaped the back yard frequently .The fence was a piece of crap . They terrorized the neighborhood . I told him that the next time I saw them out would be the last time he would see them alive. He got rid of the dogs . gd |

Texas has "Lillian's Law" Essentially, serious injury is a third degree felony and causing death is second degree for the owner of the dogs. Lillian was a poor woman mauled to death in her front yard while her invalid husband struggled to bring a gun to bear from inside the house. As someone who has killed a great many dogs, (there used to be a bounty on feral dogs when i was a teenager) Packs will not continue an attack after shots are fired. It's the noise more than the bullets that changes their minds. I managed to shoot only one out of a pack of 10 or so that was attacking a colt, the rest immediately headed for the hills. Still had to put the colt down though. It's just not pitts, i've had to shoot a chow that tried to hamstring me in my own driveway when i was unloading the car. |

Just got word they released her from the hospital with many stitches and future plastic surgeries. They don’t keep you in the hospital like they used to. I’m surprised. Her mom is keeping her Facebook page pretty up to date. No news on the dogs or owners yet. From her mom: I’m sorry I can’t update right now, I’m taking care of Tess Lancaster. She is stable has fever and is in much pain. The swelling is getting worse. Please pray. I’ll be back on here in a bit. Thank you so much for loving her. |

This is terrible. No one should ever go thru this. I can only imagine the terror and pain she went through. The owner/owners of these dogs should be fined into oblivion and face jail time. Until the penalties of letting your canines run free become very harsh, this stuff will continue to happen. Having said all that, now I'll piss some people off. It seems these type stories are only made widely public when it involves Pit Bulls. Attacks like this happen all over the world and involve all breeds. When I was growing up, our town had a problem with dogs running in packs. Rural setting, kids often playing in the woods etc. A couple of children got chewed up pretty good. They almost got me on a couple of occasions. The men in the community went out and hunted them and killed them. Not a Pit Bull in the bunch as they were not a popular breed in the area. Mostly GSD, hunting type dogs and mutts. A women was killed some years ago when 13 mutts attacked here. Wild dog packs have been a problem in many cities here in the USA for decades. Most people don't hear about that fact. Whenever you get multiple dogs running in packs, the breed doesn't matter. It is a dangerous situation. The "pack mentality" mindset takes over and bad things happen. |

There's a video floating around somewhere of 3 dogs attacking a jogger, and a responding neighbor shoots into the ground near the dogs and they don't respond at all (I believe they're his dogs...two pits and some other kind of shepherd things, IIRC). I'll see if I can find it. Oddly, they just kind of break off the attack on their own, guess they got tired of mauling. |

If you think there is any likely hood at all that you may encounter aggressive canines , carry some strong pepper spray / bear spray along with your sidearm and knife. There are times when pepper spray will be far more effective when attacked by multiple dogs. About 5 years ago I was attacked by 3 Pit Bulls in my backyard while fishing. They came out of the woods about 25 yards from me , saw me and came at me. I just got home from church and saw a lot of action in the lake..... the fish were going nuts. Ran in the basement, put my boots on, grabbed my rod and tackle box and headed down to the lake. Did not take a hand gun or anything for protection..... 99.9 % I do but I was in a hurry to fish and didn't think about it. Anyway, when they charged at that distance, I highly doubt that I would have made a hit. Only thing I had left to do was jump in the lake and swim out a ways. Boots got filled with water and I had to kick them off. Damn dogs ran up and down the shore line growling. I thought the "alpha" was actually going to swim out to get me. He started to. I would have drowned him. In a situation like that, pepper spray would have been great. |

The list changes slightly year to year but I have never seen Pit Bulls at the top of the list. Even considering the fact that often time bites/attacks are attributed to Pit Bulls and were actually other breeds/mutts. It's why some reports have gone to " Pit Bull Type Dog" instead of just saying Pit Bull. I have seen dogs that were obviously not a Pit Bull be counted as Pit Bull bite. If the family Dachshund was as big as a Pit Bull, some would be screaming for the eradication of them too. or do we just pay more attention to those attacks? Yeah, we do. The media does. They can't wait to tell us about Pit Bull attacks. It's obvious when the included photo is of a GSD and the title says " Pit Bull " attack. If they really are a dangerous breed Pit Bulls are no more dangerous than many other breed in terms of frequency of attack. Again, don't forget that many other breeds are often called a Pit Bull let alone all the mutts that are indentified as Pit Bulls. What hurts the "Pit Bull" are the same traits that make it a great dog in the right hands. They are tenacious, courageous , and don't give up. They possess great power for their size. Do they have the ability to do more harm than most other dogs? Yes they do...... this is what scares people and contributes to the pearl clutching. cant we just sterilize all of them and just buy/own GSDs and dobermans? Plenty of problems in the past with GSDs too. When a breed becomes popular and everyone wants one, eventually they fall into the wrong hands and the problems start. GSDs took their turn , then it was Rotties, etc. |
