This is still a pretty solid horror film. Has held up better than I thought, despite some dated special effects.
I also enjoyed reading the book released after the movie several times as a young teenager. |

Solid movie. Still scary as fuck. It's even worse now that I'm older and have two small kids.
And I don't care what the dude from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 says Tobe Hooper DID NOT direct that movie. |

This movie was made to fuck with little kids. Was supposed to be released with R rating but got thru with a PG, so parents let kids watch.
As expected for Pedowood. |

Good movie... saw it when it first came out and still like it.
Same with Hell Raiser. Some movies just stand up against time. |

I called it polar ice when I was a kid
Anyway as an adult I just stare at JoBeth Williams's sweater puppies. Even the poltergeist tried to get those things out. |
|

I found it funny that Craig T Nelson was reading a book about Reagan while smoking weed. Don't know why, but I laugh every time.
I'd also fuck Milf JoBeth in that movie. She was probably the age I am now. Sucks getting older. |

Didn't the kid from it die or go missing in real life or something?
|

I always laughed at the end when the oldest girl comes home just in time to see the house sucked into Hell and she's got a massive hickey on herneck.
|
|
I watched it in the theater at age 12 with my feet up on the seat. I read those were real bodies in the pool.

Spielberg written all over it.
Same neighborhood. ET was living down the street. |

Disturbing and fascinating movie.
No way I'm allowing a clown doll in my house. |
|
I saw it the opening weekend, it opened alongside wrath of khan. I chose Poltergeist.
I did not see Khan until it hit video in 1983 or so. No regrets, like both movies. |

The clown scene was the only scene that freaked me out as a kid. I don’t think it’s held up well. We watched it with our kids and they thought it was silly.

I remember when it was first shown on early HBO after it's release. Scared the bejesus out of me at the time.
ETA: still haven't rewatched it. I should look for it on a streaming channel |

Good ol practical effects will always trump CGI. Have you watched The Thing lately? Still fucking horrid

As cynical and jaded as I am as an adult, that damn movie still freaks me the fuck out. Early childhood trauma, I guess. |

Every once in a while when I have a steak on the grill I wonder if it's going to start spouting maggots

All I remember is the milf made my pants tight as a young boy.
Great film. |

This incident in Texas seems more aligned with what occurred in the movie. https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Black_Hope |

that fucking clown and tree.
for years I could never look under my bed at night and freaked out whenever the tree branches rubbed on the window in the wind. |

Rhine, director of Duke University’s Parapsychology Laboratory. Rhine believed that the presence of two hormonal teenagers could have opened some sort of chance for psychokinesis, or perhaps poltergeist activity. Hormonal teenagers might incite poltergeist activity? What a revelation! |
