The first car thread to me to thinking about cars and planes.
I bought this 1969 Cessna O2-A Skymaster in 2002. It had 3000 hours of combat time in Vietnam. 8 bullet holes and served with the 20th TASS from 1969-1971.

First was a Taylorcraft BC12D

Not mine, no idea if I have pictures, been eons ago since I bought it. Looks similar...  Had the engine mod to 80 HP vs. normal 65 HP.

Thank goodness the mechanic at the airport was an old timer and knew the model inside and out. Paid ~$400 for it, from an ad in the newspaper.  My ex and I did some repairs to it [over 3 weeks] and he annualed it. The engine clanked which was normal, but I didn't like it. Traded for an old Bellanca with the smooth 6 cyl Franklin engine. That was a disaster...

Since then, have to stop and think of the various ones I've owned. Later ones very high performance and a joy to fly.

Post the first airplane you purchased?  I can't even afford a first airplane.
Guess I'm just going to have to be poor somewhere else!

That's not even the same model aircraft I had but it's damn close.  Mine had a hand-me-down Saito on it from my dad.

It went faster than it should have.

1/48 scale Hasegawa F-4J.

Beautiful kit, but I was too young to appreciate it.

Best,

I'm looking forward to the day it starts actually looking like an airplane.  I'll put in a silk scarf and make propeller noises for a least an hour.

I've already bought it as far as I'm concerned.  It's just the small details like paying for it that have the purchase date yet to be determined.
