I've never seen a business fail to capitalize on it's pop culture references so badly (M.A.S.H. fame). The families that started it franchised locally then cut each other's throats in court trying to take over their shares.

I was going to post that.

I'm not from the Yoop but deer hunted up there for many years.  Pasties were a staple of the deer camp diet.  Haven't been up there in 15 years or so.  Miss it.

Sugar cream pie, and the pork tenderloin sandwich. The tenderloin is really more a regional thing, but ubiquitous in Indiana.

I'm glad you can get it down there, it's not that surprising though since Texas has a lot of Germans too.

Butcher shop scrapple is also best scrapple, just don't tell people what's in it though or the "I can't eat a Big Mac" crowd would get a terminal case of the vapors.

I don't know about regional so much as "We have a lot of Germans around" no matter the region, I've had them before out there and they're great, but they're still basically a schnitzel sandwich. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

No kidding. As much shit as NY gets, its colleges are excellent, and the UofR female med students are FINE. Big ass campus thats beautiful too. It'd be a cool place to live if it wasnt in NY and you didnt have be IN rochester.

The only thing I can think of is:

If it's not made with real key limes, it ain't key lime pie (or key lime cheesecake).

Due to our proximity to the ocean, gulf and lakes we have lots of seafood restaurants, and due to our diversity (Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Bahamians, Asians etc) we have many excellent ethnic restaurants. Most using locally available fruits, veggies and fish. There are some places here that can make your taste buds jump for joy.

Top two reasons I picked UofR...

1) World-class engineering school.
2) More chicks than most engineering schools.

RIT was never really on my radar for whatever reason.

But glad I didn't. The Navy and Marine Corps ROTC guys from RIT had to commute to UofR every morning for PT / Naval Science Classes... no thanks. Just walking out of my dorm into subzero temperatures every day was bad enough, lol.

Ah Rochester winters. That cold has a way of cutting through heavy ass coats and going straight to the bone.

They have most of the stuff I've seen so far somewhere in Houston. I guess it is the "most diverse city" in the nation though.

I miss some stuff from LA though. Plenty of Louisiana foods are hard to find outside of the state, or have been attempted and had failed results.

These days to a lesser degree, Koegel's hot dogs are also repeatedly requested.  Koegel's has upped their nationwide marketing and actually makes a summer tour with a few semi's of their products. The trucks never return to Michigan with left over product.  Word spreads quickly among displaced Michiganders that "The Koegel's truck is in town!!!"
