Quoted: You ever seen one in real life? They are fucking massive. View Quote My pop was flying through Edwards onces on a mission, he asked the B58 (chase plane) jock about the valkyrie's top speed..... The Hustler driver told him, "I don't know, when he hits the gas, I don't get to see him again till I land" Dad was impressed by the xb70, and he didn't impress easily. |

The stainless steel (For honeycomb Body panels) was produced by Armco, in Butler Pa. Parts of that plant still operate, but they don’t do much stainless steel there anymore. They also made some titanium there for honeycomb panelsFor the XB-70 - Ti-3Al-2.5V, back in the 1960s. But they had lots of trouble with oxygen contamination. It is amazing to walk under that beast at the USAF museum at Wright Patterson. It was missing (Not easy to get to see as it was in the special projects/presidential hangar on the main base) for a number of years when they rearranged things, before they built the fourth hangar display building. If you love planes and haven’t been there yet, you really need to go. Just do whatever it takes to get there. |

Quoted: Really? I had a model of the Tigershark when I was a kid. But the program never went anywhere except for into the ground (in multiple ways). Why would that be your favorite? View Quote It has very close to perfect proportions for a 1960s era design. The bigger engine instead of the two little exhausts of the J85s, and a better formed radome. |

I always thought that the F-4 Phantom just looked like it was spoiling for a fight. Some war planes are really beautiful with graceful lines, while other planes just look like they want to fight. |
