Protesters muzzled at Chinese dog meat festival
[snip]This year the festival has also been targeted by British comedian Ricky Gervais, who posted a series of messages on Twitter with the hashtag "StopYuLin2015", writing on Sunday: "It should be called a Dog Torture Festival. Because that's what it is."[/snip]

Sounds like a good reason for economic sanctions and regime change in china. No way America should tolerate this blatant violation of the law. Hopefully the next president had the guts to stand up to them.

While I'm against the way the animals are treated/ housed, I don't get the problem with eating dog.

And yes, I understand the realities and complications of feeding a huge population with cows, chickens, etc. I don't need to hear the whining about feed lots and chicken cages - I don't agree with those either but I know we wouldn't be able to feed the world without them.  I generally just eat venison and buy chicken, pork and eggs from locals.  Although I will still contribute to the feed lots and chicken cages occasionally.

Comparing the US to keeping chickens in a cage vs this is ludicrous at best.  This is torture of an animal.  While some of the facilities here have real confined cages, it's nothing compared to this.

that's fooking libs for ya....in reality they are apathetic to what's in front of them seeing only opportunity to use what is in front of them
for some other purpose or agenda..

Chicoms got equal pleasure torturing US prisoners....I doubt their political prisoners fare much better than these poor chiens.

Is "more government" your answer to everything that offends you?

How about we worry about our own problems here before we go on a world tour telling other countries what is and is not ok to eat, okay?

When it comes to cruelty and torture, yes it is the government's job to do something. China is pushing their boundaries to see what we let them get away with.

China is not part of the USA...how is it our job to dictate to them what they can and can't do?  I don't agree with them torturing and eating dogs, but they are there own fucking third world shithole.  There are weird fucked up cultures of people all over this world that do a hell of a lot worst shit than this.

I would think the younger dogs would be tender, the older dogs seem to be stronger in flavor and tough, I would think.  I guess it depends on cooking skills.

They could capture, euthanize, and incinerate feral dogs from the street like we do in America.  Instead people eat em.  IMO the Chinese show more respect to the animal by putting it to good use, instead of turning it to waste.  I think a lot of people here don't understand the problems that other countries have with feral dogs in urban areas.

I don't care what you eat as long as you kill it humanely,  I saw some jacked up videos where they tossed a small dog into a boiling pot of water to get the fur off, then they pulled it out and started chopping it up while it was still alive.

I've eaten dog meat in China dozens of times, it's always been delicious.  Cured and smoked served cold is my favorite...tastes a little like pastrami.

The videos/pictures shown are not the norm or out of context.  The dogs pictured in the thread are generally not the ones that are "farmed".   These dogs tend to be St. Bernards because they produce large litters and grow fast.

What you see here is akin to a hillbilly fest.  I've seen people here in the US grab chickens or goats by the neck and manhandle them for a very short time before slaughter.  I doubt people here would cry so loudly seeing a bunch of chickens in a cage 20 minutes before slaughter.

Anyone with an agenda can take a picture or short video of something and turn it into a "Oh the horror look at this atrocity".

They usually hang the dogs when they slaughter them.  Unlike here in the US, they don't have access to .22's to shoot them in the head.  All in all, I've rarely seen food animals "tortured" in China, it doesn't make economic sense or "taste" sense.

Oh, I guess I missed that part of the article.  If true, that isn't very nice.  Mistreatment of food animals isn't a problem specific to the Chinese though.

lol for the poster calling for economic sanctions and "wishing we had a leader who would stand up to this" has to be the dumbest post of the year.

Yea, any normal human being doesn't like seeing dogs tortured. . . . but this is third world China here, where large portions of their population statistically eat worse than your garbage disposal at home.

Just as an FYI, it's well known that as this festival started receiving more and more international attention, more folks started doing horrible shit to the dogs as to get protesters to pay top dollar so they aren't slaughtered.

It's fucked up, but China can be a pretty fucked up place.

I get that stray dogs aren't the same as my cute little butthead at home. I get that.

I just feel really skeeved out by it. Not just how they go about it - cramming them in those little cages - but the thought of eating something that can look up at you in adoration, go to the ends of the earth to try to save your life, or mourn at your grave for days on end should you die.

It just feels wrong as fuck.

That's all.
