This may seem like a BS question to some, but I'm curious as to how many of you feel pride in being American?
I ask this because I talk to people everyday, old and young, and I am surprised by the way a lot of people feel about their nationality..... especially some of the older folk....... Where do you stand on your American pride? |
|
I've got pride in my beliefs and my ethics, but pretty sure it's not held by a majority here anymore.
|
|
That's why I'm asking...... I agree with what you said, and it mirrors a lot of what I hear, young and old...... What confounds me is why it isn't spoken about more.

The Tea Party Republicans (funded and directed by the Koch brothers) are the scourge of the country. They do not give me any pride. Watching them cave in was nice.

I will always be proud to be an American, and proud of what good things our country has done, but politics is another whole story, I feel they are 2 separate issues. The last decade has really sucked for our country, but I will always try to support her in ways of what I believe she should be. The country is hurting right now, I will be here to help her recover

I've worked in west Africa, Mexico, and Venezuela among many other places. I'm proud to be American but most of all I'm thankful to have been born in Waco, TX instead of some of the horrible places many others were born in.

I see other countries which seem better than the U.S. and wonder why I still live here
Then again I see communist china and think "Hey, at least I'm not as likely to have my door kicked down tonight" And I see the Norks and think "Hey, my TV isn't nearly as censored as theirs" Then I see some Euro gas prices and i'm glad to be able to afford to drive my truck All and all, I'm pretty lucky to be American |

You guys rock. I'm proud to have you as fellow Americans....
outofbattery...... right on |

I am thankful to God I was born here. There are some good people here. Unfortunately there are more idiots than intelligent people which was demonstrated with the election of Obama and the moral decline of our nation.
So no, I'm not proud of our current country. But I am proud of the ideals that we used to represent.

I may hate our government, and hate most of the people who reside in this country's borders, but I'm a fucking American damnit. I love freedom, cheese burgers, steak, bacon, guns, and vocally describing my disdain for authority. Those are trademark qualities of being American and I'm proud as fuck about it.
|

I am proud of ideas which took hold here. I am not proud of borders, land or symbols.

proud to be an american.not proud of the direction this country is heading and i have very little hope of it getting any better

Government subsidation will make this country so much better. Who needs a whole acute wing of a hospital full of RN's? All you need is one, and a a bunch of techs. PTA's?? shit, aint nobody got time fo dat!! PT's should send their pt.'s to athletic trainers! Cut cost baby! Why should people that get medical treatment be treated like customers in which their business is appreciated? If all hospitals were run like the VA and DMV, this country would be so much betterer! Where do I sign up to get free shit? |

I would reckon that most of us are proud of our past glory but few can be proud of our current government or situation.

I'm very interested to hear about where life is better than the US. I've only been to 30 other countries, have lived in 8 of those, and still haven't found one that comes even close to the US, but like I said, I've only been to 30. I haven't been to Africa yet, so maybe that's where the party is. I can tell you where it's not: Scandinavia (a distant 2 or 3 on a scale of 1-10, but nothing like the US) Central Europe Eastern Europe Japan Middle East Central America Russia Baltics Japan Korean Peninsula Mediterranean region (nice to visit in many places) I don't believe in pride, but I am beyond grateful for being born and being able to live in America. Every time I touch down here, there is an air of freedom that I have not tasted anywhere else in the world. |

I'm very proud of this country.
I'm just ashamed of it's present government and it's policies. |

I was born in Canada and I moved to Texas and Became an American. I am proud as all hell to be American.
I am not proud of the so called "Leaders" of America. They can suck my asshole When I see the Stars and Stripes flowing in the wind and know where it comes from and what it represents. I'll admit it. Gets my dick hard. I love my country. Fuck you Commies for trying to ruin it. |

I've about lost all pride in this country....which saddens me to no end. Coming to the realization that the majority of people are collectivist statists that justify the plundering of their neighbors using threat of government violence as a proxy for themselves is maddening.
Also, we live in a fascist surveillance state. We've about completely lost the bill of rights. The NSA monitored over a billion calls in a single month. They claim rights to all emails over 90 days old. They give guns to Mexican cartels in hopes they later show up south of the border so they can further restrict the 2nd amendment. The media is so propagandized it's absurd anyone watches. The Federal Reserve is the biggest central planner the world has ever seen. I joined the USAR and served six years as soon as I could after 911 out of a sense of patriotism, I would not do that again. I can't figure out what exactly is worth saving about this country. Am I disillusioned or in need of more tinfoil? I still pull for us in the Olympics though .....USA USA USA!!! |

Which America? The one I was born in?
Or what passes for it these days? |

JuniorJr
Both apply...... I agree this country and it's leadership has gone to hell and a handbasket, but are you pround to tell others that you are American? |

I moved here when I was 18 with my family. When I was 21 I bought my first pistol (S&W Model 457 in .45 auto) and I had my green card at the time. There is a space on firearms purchase forms for "Legal Resident" information asking for the Alien ID number from the green card. Of course I also had a Texas DL and SS number so they could verify everything as well. |

For me being an American is a Choice not a Birth Right. I Chose to walk away from my Country of Birth and become an American. I did not have to and could have gone through the Green Card process every 10 years and remain a Canadian Citizen. But Texas and America for me IS the right fit. Never felt more at home anywhere else. I exercise my 2nd Amendment Proudly. |

Proud to be an American? Um... no, not really.
Don't get me wrong, I am proud of what our country has accomplished, and glad that I was born here and even happier that I live here after seeing so many other countries. But being proud of simply being an American? I was born here, I didn't have any choice in the matter so being proud is as silly as being proud I am a man, or white, or blonde. Be proud of accomplishments. Be proud about standing firm on your principals. (Obviously, someone who voluntarily comes here for citizenship can be proud of that act!) Being proud of things you cannot control is mental masturbation at best, delusion at worst. |

I'm proud of certain things this country has accomplished. I'm proud that we were the first (and depressingly enough, 40 years later still the only) country to leave human footprints on another celestial body. I'm proud that every natural disaster thus far to strike the country has been worked past without utterly devastating the affected area. I'm proud of a nation that could pull together in times of crisis to give enemies what-for.
I'm not proud of a nation that spies on its own citizens. I'm not proud of a nation that owned human beings, and had tiers of citizenship dependent upon how one was born. I'm not proud of a nation that seems increasingly sure that if someone has nicer stuff then that stuff should belong to everyone. |
