Is that in any way similar to a cockblock?

Yes but a snatchblock happens when a lesbian meets another lesbian but can't score because her friend got int the way.

There is nothing modern about the concept of pulleys

Definitely true.

But pulleys are cool AF and a breakdown is neat.

I imagine there's both types. Guys in the country (like in the video) that have five pulleys because they work, and PhDs that understand the concept but don't have any.

I love this channel

Guy was confusing. Could have just said that the same amount of work is being done, but you are trading (less) force for (greater) distance. The tension BS is irrelevant.

This.  My little kid could explain it better.

I've never seen that book. Looks handy.  Off to Amazon.

I have a distributable PDF of that book if anyone wants a copy.

NVM, I see it's been posted.

I took a glacier crevasse rescue class once, rigging up a 9:1 Z-drag system was absolutely fun as hell.  Lifting a person and pack with a few carabiners, one pulley, and a GriGri (autolocking belay) was cool as shit.

Is it possible to move an item that exceeds the load limit of the rope using pulleys?

Here's a winch made from nothing but rope, two poles, and a stake

The day I was able to precisely calculate the K value of a spring, then figure out exact landing point of a ball bearing with previously meaningless equations was a game changer for me.

I did find a site with instructions to make blocks from elm.   Lignum vitae was a self lubricating wood for the sheaves but is on the protected species list now so they were using nylon sheaves.

Found it on a traditional boat building site.

I might make a set.

I have seen old school blocks hanging in many a deer cutters shop.  Never ran across a nice set that wasn't rotted though.  Sitting in the corner of a leaking barn is no bueno.   Hanging in a dry barn for 60 years and they seem to last forever.

I literally have a completely cheap Harbor fright set for deer processing.  It's garbage quality but it does work.   A 140 pound deer goes up with just a few pounds of pull.

Two, the answer is two.  And a winch on a Timberjack 350A skidder.
