R Kelly, 55, was sentenced today in Brooklyn federal court to 30 years in prison The sentence was handed down by Judge Ann M. Donnelly despite his lawyers' request for 10 years Last year, the R&B fallen star was found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking Prosecutors sought 25 years while defense wanted 10 years or less for the star Kelly's lawyers said he deserved leniency because of his own abuse and poverty
