Breaking ground in 2024 and will be running by 2028. Train will cruise at 200 mph and take 2 hours to get to Vegas.
Rancho Cucamonga to Vegas high-speed rail receives $3 billion in federal funds |

Subsidizing a major corp. For a business that won't make money.
|
|
Well, since the high speed rail from Bakersfield > Sac > the bay area is complete and operational now, may as well build this one too...
...FFS |
|
4-years from nothing to complete for a high speed rail? Bullshit, there’s no fucking way.

I think passenger rail in this country is a dead horse and I don't like the feds spending money on it.
But this route might, I say might, make sense. It's short enough, two major population centers on either end, for the most part goes through fairly barren territory. |

I imagine any train leaving Vegas on the weekends will reek of vomit and urine.

I wonder how much of the proposed line right of way is owned by politicians families?

Imagine living in a state where Rancho Cucamonga is a real city. California pisses me off

I bet Elon could get it done.
Anyone else? Probably not. But a lot of in-laws and cousins will get some high paying jobs. |
|
|
Came for this. Well done. |
|
Damn I wish I could spend money like .gov.
That train, (if it ever actually gets built) will never turn a profit. |
|
Because the San Fransisco to Los Angeles bullet train project is working out so well? Who could argue that it isn’t a success after 15 years, more than 10 billion dollars, not a single piece of track being laid and a projected opening of a useless segment between Merced and Bakersfield delayed until 2030?

So Vegas will finally succumb to "End of the bus line" issues.

20-years ago this was a pretty big conversation trying to get the high-speed Choo-choo train running to 'Vegas.
We'd figure the Las Vegas casinos would fund half of the thing with a low interest loan. Hell if they were smart there would be dope smoking and drinking on the train and the second it crossed the border gaming should open. They ought to link-up with the mono-rail near the airport. |
|
196 miles, typical 3-3.5 hour drive.
I have done it in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Why the fuck would I want a train ? Why the fuck would I want to go to Vegas again ?? Lol, this will never pan out… |

As long as it takes Californians back to California after they're done dropping their $$ in Vegas, go for it.
|

Lol. Never happen. The EIS and Biological Opinion for Desert Tortoise alone will take that long.
Defenders of Wildlife will have a lawsuit spun up by Friday. |

Brightline, unlike the State of California, will actually deliver this project. What they’ve done in Florida is impressive. When Rick Scott turned down several billion in funding for passenger rail the leftists went nuts, ultimately brightline built the network with nearly zero government dollars.
Same should go for the CA to Vegas line, if there’s a true business case for the route a private sector entity will fill the void. If there’s no business case then the line isn’t needed. Shouldn’t get a dollar of government funding. |

View Quote This is one of the few routes that just may work west of the Appalachians. There is a very significant amount of tourist traffic that travels from the LA area to spend weekends in Vegas. Now why the hell am I paying for it when it could pay for itself. |

3% of what Biden gave to Ukraine?
Gavin didn't get sniffed by Biden. |

I guess it works if you’re visiting Vegas and just want to do a park n ride in Rancho, but completely useless if you live in Vegas heading to LA or Orange County. Am I supposed to take the train to Rancho and then figure out transportation from there?
I follow a pretty strict rule when traveling to California on the 15. Don’t head that way on a Sunday and don’t come back to Vegas on a Friday. For the most part it works out to about a 3.5-4 hour drive. What they should be doing is taking that $3 billion and making the 15 three lanes from Primm to Barstow. Also ticket every asshole that parks in the left lane because that stretch of road is the worst I’ve seen for it anywhere in the country. |

Rancho is my hometown. It would take us 3 hours to drive to Vegas. Shaving 1 hour from that commute is well worth the investment!

Quoted: LOL It's $88 round trip on Delta. One hour in the air. View Quote plus 2 hours in the airport before hand, another hour in the airport when you get there... not that getting on a train will be any easier. I have doubts this will be completed on time or anywhere close to budget. It does actually kind of make sense though |

Quoted: LOL It's $88 round trip on Delta. One hour in the air. View Quote Depending on how much pain is involved in parking at the station and boarding, I might actually prefer the train. Going to the airport is always a pain in the ass. Even if the airport has their act together you need to be there a good hour before wheels up. Considering how massive the migration is between LA and Vegas every weekend, this might not be the dumbest idea they've ever had. |

Quoted: I wonder how much of the proposed line right of way is owned by politicians families? View Quote Ha, that's how they did the Denver International Airport. A group of folks bought different parcels. Then they sold the parcels to each other, over and over, each time at a higher price. Then with the value artificially jacked up because of the bogus transactions, the parcels were sold to the airport. |
