That's a bucket list accomplishment for sure. Congratulations! BJJ brings so much joy in my life. I've recently started back after a long hiatus.
|
|
That's awesome. Jiu Jitsu Black Belt one of the only respected ranks left in the martial arts.
I did Jiu Jitsu for 3 years before I stopped. I'm going to get back into it sooner or later. |

How often do you [gently] practice with the ol lady?
Mine has been taking kick boxing lessons for a few months and has been cruising for a bruising lately. |
|
Quoted: 9 years of training. I know I should feel elated, but the rolls that day and since then just have me exhausted. I talk about Jiu Jitsu all the time, so I figured I'd update the world of ARFCOM. I train at Gracie Barra here in SC. Thanks for all the support I received from this site, and the encouragement of people who train. View Quote |

Just for kicks how many times have you been choked cold?
Have you ever had anyone not tap and pass out? I blacked out once from a triangle, instructor stayed with me and I woke with him in the mount. I had a couple people not tap and I had them right on the verge of passing out when I would feel stop fighting, I let go and they come back immediately. Fun stuff. |

Congrats man. 40yr old purple here. Have rolled once since Easter.
Stupid work and life stuff, Will be jumping back in soon. I miss it. |
|
Nice. I'm a purple, with six and half years in the game.
It is definitely a rare accomplishment. |

Especially not me. I'm delicate. A Girl Scout could kill me with a Popsicle stick.
Congratulations on achieving your goal! Quoted:
I don't ask. Because everyone knows they don't want a roundhouse kick from these bad boys. :) View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Do you wear American flag 80's style baggy work out pants and ask if anyone wants to take a roundhouse kick to the face while you're wearing those bad boys? Congrats!!! My cousin got his black belt in the past couple of years and he started back in 1995! In his defense, he got to purple and did only No-Gi for years and only went back to the Gi when he set his sights on being an instructor. He started in a Royce Gracie school and got his black belt from Rigan Machado.
Where I live is a veritable gold mine of BJJ instruction with Lovato Jr. running a huge school and at least one of his black belts running another in the suburbs, not to mention a bunch of other black belts with their own schools. I would guess my suburb has a minimum of 3-5 black belts with their own schools! |
|
Congratulations. I've got a purple belt in Kajukenbo, and BJJ is my goal after I get my first degree black here.
|
|
Congratulations, man.
I'm like a 7 year blue belt. It's amazing how easily life can get in the way of things. Left for two years, came back and fucking EVERYONE was suddenly doing this Miyao brothers open guard game with berimbolos left and right. Half my rolls ended up in a 50/50 stalemate. Boring as hell. Definitely a long journey. |
|
Nice work, that's a hell of an accomplishment. I have several friends witb brown and black belts and it's a major commitment, and one that spills over into every facet of your life in a positive way.

This thread (and my jealousy) made me get back in for the first time in months. Thanks OP!

I felt it was too dangerous to risk the remaining 9 years. I was a new white belt when I did that. |

All that money you spent on training and you couldn't afford a $25 team membership?

All that money you spent on training and you couldn't afford a $25 team membership? View Quote I have been a team member for the majority of the years I have been on the site. I have four children that also have trained since they were 4 or 5, and I suppose I had to make some tough decisions about every penny spent. I even stopped shooting (I am a lifelong shooter and All-Army competitor two years in a row). So life gets in the way, and I stopped posting on the site, mainly because I was sad about not shooting, and having to triage my time and money in order to accomplish some specific goals. The last two years as a brown belt were spent making major life decisions, and I guess a 25 dollar membership slipped by. |
