Look for CA, OR and WA wines there's a huge amount of expertise. American wines have a "cleaner" taste and are generally more "fruit forward". A large portion of European wines are infected with Brettanomyces which gives a musty or Old World taste. I prefer New World wines including US, Argentina and Australian. You can sometimes get lucky and find a decent red for under $10. $10-15 will get you better and it's up from there. Of course there's lots of overhyped and overpriced wine on the market. Two (or three) buck chuck is crap, sorry. |

Not a recommendation I expected here, but I agree. For a real splurge, the Chateau de Beaucastel is fantastic. |

I drink mostly Pinot Noir and La Crema is one of my favorites about 24 dollars.
