I have more than once had to run those little fuckers off from my brass pile at the range, while they were swooping around like goddamn vultures. And then they act all offended when you tell them to go fuck themselves.  After that, I throw my brass in the trash since I don’t reload but goddamn those pricks are some rude motherfuckers.

But if you are an average joe non-crazy high volume 9/223/12gauge/22lr shooter (as I am) it doesn't really pencil out to be worth the hassle to me.

and they are so quick to say "well I save 20-50 cents a round", yeah, because you are figuring the price of components when you neckbearded stocked them a decade ago.  Thats not a fair comparison, you either do current-day replacement costs or compare your previous cost of components to the previous cost of the loaded ammo at the same time.  primers panic just as bad as loaded ammo and are the LAST thing to come back.  plus thats a lot of money to get setup ($1000 in equipment on average it seems), and you need the space, and attention span / organizational skill (that 3 cents a round you save gets set back pretty bad when you blow up your gun!), and TIME... TIME IS MONEY.

You reload or are at the whim of the market up or down. I roll my own but don't brag about it. Last few years if I didn't already have components I couldn't get into it now. Prices are crazy high on everything. Started in the early 90s and no telling how much money I have saved on ammunition.  Be dependant and do you.

This is the big reason I don't reload.  I just can't afford the time.  Right now I am not doing shit, but reloading isn't the kind of activity you can interrupt 10 times and do it successfully.  You need a long stretch of uninterrupted free time.  I haven't had that since we had kids.  And by the time they move out I'll be dead anyway so...

This man knows.

When you see a deal like $0.06 premium 9mm defensive bullets being closed out because the manufacturer is discontinuing the factory load you go deep. Then 10 years down the road you’re still plinking with Golden Sabers for $0.09/round loaded.

Yep.  I tried force lube with the resizing luber, but I prefer casting to drop to size and then pan lubing with SPG.

Reloading looks like fun and a great way to make ammo you might not find online or in stores.

It’s also not cost effective at current component prices for 9mm FMJ. Different story if you bought your primers and powder years ago.

The problem I have with 9mm is it's not easy to recover your brass, so I just shoot commercial 9mm.

But I have a brass catcher for my AR's, so I reload all my 556/223 brass.

Much like sharpening knives is not a hobby for me, acquiring ammo is likewise not a hobby.

For my knives I bought a Worksharp.

For my ammo I just buy it.

I got better things to do than spend anymore than minimal time on either.

Most serious competition shooters reload.

Not only is it cheaper but it allows you to adjust the load to get close to the power factor floor… which reduces recoil and extends the life of the gun.
