I think what hurt the show most of all was that it seemed to lose its sense of humor in its later days. The Paul Shanklin parody songs disappeared, as did the various Updates, all replaced by standard political talk, which was fine, but the comedy bits were what made the show fun and edgy in its earlier years. It just wasn't the same.
