To me it seems that the focus should be on STEM

Adding Arts into STEM only seems to drag it down.

It would hurt the feelings of the A's telling them if their not top in class job prospects mostly involve asking "would you like fries with that"

There isn't an A in STEM.

They're trying to add it as a participation award for the "A"s.

We just had a thread on this:

How else are they gonna raise the self-esteam (intentional spelling) of kids who can't hack it academically?

It's similar to the SJW-led effort to redefine "intelligence" to mean something, anything other than "intelligence", so that they can pump up kids who are not that bright and shit on the ones who are that bright. Because equality, or somethin'...

Or why some leftist idiots will try to get away with calling a 'garbage man' a 'sanitation engineer' (as if the guy graduated from some engineering school)...

A buddy of mine's wife, who had a degree in some Art field, posted on Facebook that Art was as important to curing cancer as modern medicine.  I laughed at her until her husband wasn't my friend anymore.  He didn't have a STEM degree either, so it didn't take very long.

Makes less sense than putting auto shop in the fine arts buidling.....though that would be a better use of the space.

Meanwhile... industrial designers are over in the corner laughing their asses off while engineers are getting butt hurt about art getting added to their nerd club.

It takes a team to develop a product; designers, engineers, manufacturing, distribution, marketing, and sales... all working together to succeed.

Art and creativity is part of humanity; if art is irrelevant then throw out your furniture, your books, you kitchen appliances, whatever good looking car you have in the garage... art exists in every single one of those products

STEM was brought on to delineate the those with hard science degree.  Adding an A is bullshit, and has nothing to do with the other fields of study.

I refuse to add the A.

I have a STEM degree.

The people who want to add Arts to the category of the USEFUL, PRODUCTIVE, and GOOD PAYING degrees are exactly the same people who demand participation trophies just for showing up or even for supporting the event in a spiritual manner even if they could not be bothered to physically make an appearance at it.

Just tell them "STEM degrees have real value.  Arts degrees don't, so that's why we don't add the A."  Just flat out piss them off to no end.  It's fun!

True, but it's far less certain that you'll make a good living as an artist than as an engineer.  THAT is why there is no A in STEM.

STEM degrees are most likely to lead to a good living.   Arts degrees, not so much.  Well paid artists are the exception, not the rule.

A world without art and creativity would not be worth living in.   A world without engineering would be HARD to live in.

With both in the right proportions,  life is very much worth living.

Let's not kid ourselves here.  Artistic attributes of an item are far less valuable than the functional attributes.  E.g. a car which looks amazing but doesn't run is far less valuable than an unattractive car that runs well.

Google human factors or ergonomics, that along with making a product proportional and beautiful is my day in day out. The principles that govern those things are based on science and math like any engineering principle.

The arrogance, indifference, and ignorance of engineers just make shit harder than it has to be. Haveing an engineer tell me that it's unimportant what handle a $12,000 luxury appliance has is just silly.

All of the work that engineer put in doesn't mean shit if the product looks like a bunch of engineers tacked on an off the shelf handle and half assed the gaps because it makes their life easier.

Ignore and bilittle art at your own risk if you're engineering on human centered products, your competitors thank you.

Apple’s decision to make their headphones white instead of black was enough to turn the tide in Apple’s favor.  The VW New Beetle was just a Jetta or Golf underneath and yet they sold a million of them.  The success of both products was due as much to how the things looked as it was to the engineering.

ETA: Maybe more.
