I bet a feedlot would give you a couple of dump truck loads of manure, for fertilizing that area around the pond and back down that trail. They don't want that stuff on their sneakers.

Get better signs and better fence posts to match if necessary. Look at how corporate signs are mounted / displayed. I would start with steel tube posts and aluminum signs mounted with bolts and brackets. If you are certain that trespassers will attack the signs / posts then start with galvanized steel pipe instead of galvanized tube posts. Deeply bury the posts and set them in concrete. This sort of hardware is available and pretty commoditized.

You don't want to let your yard become a thoroughfare as this could lead to the loss of your property rights depending on state law. Google the term "adverse possession" along with "trespasser" and your state.

Alternatively, I once encountered a sign to the effect that the owner granted limited permission to cross privite property with the conditions that it was to be done at your own risk, that loitering was prohibited, that only the unimproved trail was to be used, that minors had to be accompanied and that permission was revokable and only valid during daylight hours. Apparently, the owner was tired of dealing with people hiking through to a nearby trailhead and didn't want to endanger his property rights.

I'd still rather use fences / signs in most scenarios. As always consult a real attorney about fancy signs.

I suspect most signs won't do much and may cause some revenge harassment. Your property needs to become inconvenient for people to access & traverse without permission. There are some good ideas here, especially the motion detector sprinklers.

You should avoid things that could get you in trouble. Those may include, but are not limited to, caltrops, pit traps, toe poppers, entanglement hazards at choke points, concealed injurious devices in vehicle handles, etc.

A sign informing trespassers that they are under video and audio surveillance might discourage some people in your situation. You might also want to think about a sign declaring that a dog is invisibly / radio fenced. It doesn't really matter if you have a dog. The prospect of a nominally restrained guard dog adds deterrence.

However, my general feeling is that signs are of limited value. A complete perimeter fence with driveway gates would be preferable. If that's not an option make the path through your property inconvenient e.g fence the edge of the property from street to lake to limit the convenience of passing through. Be sure to point cameras at any pedestrian channel that you create.

I came to the same conclusion, sign and dog. No way I'm getting a dog, especially a big one.

Here's the current sign, I can either add one under it or replace it completely.

Get proper metal posts / brackets and install these along the road / lake for general deterrence.

The sprinkler idea is by far the best idea.  More than one.  Put no trespassing signs right by them.

If that's your lake, or your half of the lake, and you are allowed to build a fence down to the water line in FL / in your community. Then I would seriously consider fencing right across the area pictured. Force them down by the water or into the brush. That will give you plenty of places for a tasteful assortment of off putting signs. "No trespassing / private property", "guard dog radio fenced" and "area under video and audio surveillance".

Save the alligator / snake signs for making that road behind the lake nice and creepy.

best legal route i would think, also have cameras covering the sprinklers so when the agitated teens start destroying them you'll have proof of a crime. That way you can either get them arrested or at the least rerouted under threat of arrest by your deputy friend or the local PD. Problem solved.

also consider leaving your window on your truck open or something with a (fake) package or something and catch them in the act of actually reaching in.

Signs up.   A guy at work started wearing a ICE hat and a couple of the cleaning crew stopped coming in.

Seriously, fence and a dog with a big bark.     I like the motion sensor sprinklers my self.
You could always talk to them.    Tell them you really don't like them cutting through your property.   If they have to cut through then tell them where they can .    The neighbor to the west of me was a old guy and was having fits about kids cutting through his yard.  I told them where they could walk through with out causing any problems the kids went through a couple of times and then stopped.   They did thank me and I never had any property damage.  The neighbor from hell east of me did get tagged at least once a year.

This is what I was thinking. You could get some fish emulsion fertilizer and an inline fertilizer injector. Mix according to instructions. The smell doesn't linger long outside but if it gets on them their clothes will need to be washed numerous times. They would likely change their route.

Without a fence you are screwed. You can call the police and they'll get there after the teens tell you to fuck off and won't be there when the teens fuck up your shit.

Note even with a fence the teens will destroy the fence and keep going through.

I've seen this many times as a cop.

You can get them charged for damaging the fence, but in the end you won't stop them and that's even if you can catch them.

You'll need an ugly as hell tall chain link fence. They still might cut it.

Yes there will be video.

It's going to have to wait til the New Year but I've already got the CAT6 run for a camera in that corner, just too busy to put it up. I'll pick one up soon and call my buddy to help me install it.

Do you guys recommend a motion sprinkler? I found one on Amazon for $60 with good reviews.

I'm not so worried about the truck, it sucks but I keep it very clean and clutter free with nothing valuable in it. Also, I think I would rather keep it unlocked,  I had my old F150 broken into, they broke the back sliding window and it ended up costing me 2 days and $1800 for the trouble. if its unlocked then they can rummage through it and leave after not finding anything.

I'm more worried about the trespassers, maybe I can get another sprinkler head and point it at the truck at nights.

Seriously?

You people really think the fake dog trick will work?  Unless they are run off by a dog several times, they arent diverting.

Put up a fence and be done with it.  or you can waste your time with worthless crap that they will just break and destroy and make endless threads about...

on second thought..dont put up a fence...

So the other night I come out to the truck and find that it's been rummaged through. I did recently install some cameras but they weren't set to record because I couldn't decide on where to store the 1 GB+ of data I was expecting to hold. I was upset, but nothing was taken or damage so it's all good, didn't call the cops and file an official report since I already cleaned up. I did talk to my deputy buddy and he said he'll talk to his buddies about stepping up patrol in the area. That said, as soon as I cleaned up the truck I redirected my cameras to save to my home server. Well this morning I catch this shit.

https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/15403731_10153956733285899_7487751210220894761_o.jpg?oh=ac80e35089356cf7b744985fb48c8a63&oe=58F53E91

As much as I would like to, I cannot:

1. Shoot them.
2. Camp out in the bushes.
3. Shoot them.

I have "Private Property, No Trespassing" signs around the property, but they just walk by them. I was thinking about making up a couple of these. What say the hive? Any other ideas?
