Great series for sure.  Now I’m off to Amazon prime. Rowdy NO!

Have had several doctors tell me that show was the closest to the actual medical experience of any of the medical dramas.

Working patient flow in a hospital for 4 years,I would agree based on what I saw, but it's interesting how many doctors feel that way

“I think I’m ready to die” that phrase hit me pretty hard at the time, but it was only after seeing a friend go through pancreatic cancer for way longer than she should have (almost a year) that the weight of that scene really hit home. Months after she finally passed I was flipping through channels and saw the episode. I had to turn the channel once I remembered what it was about. I still have her number on my phone, can’t bring myself to delete it.

Anyway, as others have mentioned it’s a pretty solid show in the beginning but after about season 4ish I kind of lost interest. Pretty good at interweaving comedy with the occasional extremly heavy subject. The other one I found kind of interesting was the one where the super doctor who does everything right, diagnoses everything properly, and never screws up finally cracking under the pressure of having to tell the family that their kid might (or perhaps will) die and he quits right there.

Also.... the show is worth watching just for Dr. Cox. That guys is fucking hilarious

I watched it for the first three or for seasons and then it took a dive.  I lost interest after that and frankly don't want to watch it again.  For me it didn't hold up as well as The Office or some others.

There were also some really powerful moments in that show:

OCD surgeon forcing Dr Reid to intubate on the hospital roof
Exchange between JD and Carla at the bus stop in the rain
The Christmas miracle baby
Cox talking to his dead brother at the cemetery.
@DangerJ

True. Hell, the whole JD in denial twist was fucked

I love love LOVE this show.  John C. McGinley just killed it non stop.  And the characters outside the 'main four' were so well done.  Cox, Kelso, Ted, Janitor...
I think it was also one of the first shows to heavily mix in real songs / music vs just a score written for the show.  I think the music really contributed to the show.

Good point on both. The supporting characters were fantastic. Many of the cameos were excellent too.

And definitely agree on the music, they did a great job on it.

When the pilot premiered, I was doing my hospital rotation for pharmacy school with some other students and one of them did almost the exact same thing. (paged about a rather high dose of acetaminophen on one patient.) Dr. was not pleased.

Something people often overlook is that it was filmed with a single camera instead of multi-camera like most sitcoms. They did one episode in multi that shows the difference:

one of the best shows ever. I got into it when i was in med school, and could relate pretty hard to JD. nerdy and always wanted to be cool but never made it. but then started teaching at medical school and realized I was more a Dr. Cox. maybe gruff and rude and annoyed by stupidity but still trying to help people learn. The older I get (35 now) the more I identify with Dr. Kelso. Not so much into the shady massage parlors but it's looking like less of a stretch...

I think the best part is that since JD was a producer or whatever he got to pick the women JD dated on the show. It's like a who's who of early 2000 hotties and big name actresses.

If you follow Braff now you will see he and Turk are very much in real life guy love.

The sad part about shows like this, 30 rock, the office, parks and rec, etc, is that deep down I know they will never be this good again. there's no way so many of these jokes wouldn't be considered racist/offensive/whatever and get the whole thing shut down.

Yep. Scrubs could be funny as hell, but the episodes I remember most are the ones with those truly serious moments.

Even though the show's writer's claim otherwise, there's no way they can't have advisors who haven't been in residencies or hospitals.

Can you cite a source for the "shows writers claim otherwise" - it's well known that the actual doctors that JD and Molly are based on are were (past tense - future me) advisors for the show and were quite involved, a good majority of the medical cases and even the gags were inspired by real life events for one or the other (or friends of theirs etc).

Great show.  Best medical show ever.  You watch it for the laughs and then it turns on you and comes smoking in with a hot load of truth.

God hates doctors, He truly does. You see all these old people in here? Well, any of them'd give just about anything to be able to sashay off this planet, but most are gonna stay and live forever and ever and ever; and your Mr Milligan... well, it turns out he's just young enough to die. I mean, think about it... it's the holidays; there's a sweet little kid involved... can't you just feel it?
