We had to watch that in school for some reason, and my friend got in trouble for cheering when the steel mill exploded.

He played a great asshole in 24.

And no, even Sam would have been eventually worn down by the Ring. Even though they were friends, Frodo couldn't have stoically supported Sam in the way Sam supported him.

Only the extended edition went into him kicking ass in Mordor IIRC.

Yeah……… I’ve read some further musings from critics that believe that Frodo, Sam, Gimli and Bilbo did not actually get to go to Valinor itself and become immortal like the Elves, but spent the remainder of their lives on Tol Eressea/ The Lonely Isle and passed away there……. Gimli to wait in the halls with his kin set aside by Aule, and the Hobbits to pass beyond the circles of the world

Because people that are older typically move less, have less active jobs, have more injuries and take more medications for issues.

He did carry the ring like a boss for a little while, after Frodo got stung by Shelob.

I've read that it's the land itself that's undying, not the inhabitants. So those mortals were allowed to go, and no doubt die, there, but the land is never dying

Cool subject though

Smeagol/Gollum is NOT a hero.  He is a villain.

He meant to murder Sam and Frodo in their sleep.

He would have killed me to get The Ring back.

Why do people equate getting old to getting fat...like it's just something you can't avoid?

You can't avoid getting old, but that doesn't mean you need to get fat on the way there.

Getting fat is a choice, getting old isn't.

We just had this exact conversation last night with the kids. My youngest asked how long mom had to do her diet for. I said that with her current goal it will probably be 9-12 months at least.

Then she asked why it took so long and I told her because it can be very hard, and it takes time, and that's why so many people are so fat, because they choose to avoid doing the things that are hard to do.

Then it took an interesting turn and the kid set a goal for herself to gain 5 lbs and asked how long that would take. I told her probably 4-5 months if she tried really hard. This kid is a bean pole, she's never liked eating, but is finally understanding why all the kids in her class are bigger and faster than her, and wants to change that.....protein shakes for days now, we're gonna fatten that kid up a bit.

This is true, but if he had not been there at the end the ring would never have been cast back into the fire.  Frodo was overpowered by the ring at the end.
