SAN FRANCISCO — For years, sex workers have been the entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley that no one talks about.
But with money flowing from the technology industry, the sex trade is booming. "I continue to see an increase in the amount of technology clients I see here in the Bay Area," said Siouxsie Q, a 28-year-old sex worker. Silicon Valley is better known for its search engines and smartphones than it is for sex. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2014/07/10/silicon-valley-prostitution/12488225/ |

Let see a bunch of geeks that the prom queen turned her nose up on and now lots of money to buy a girl to do what he wants. Who would have thunk it!!

But the sex industry has been closely linked to boom times in the Bay Area going back to the Gold Rush, when men with pickaxes ventured here hoping to hit the mother lode. View Quote Boom times ... lode... silicon valley... so much innuendo Anyway, legalize it. |

So it would be safe to say the sex worker trade is "banging" in Silicon Valley right?
|
|
Can't say it surprised. Geeks want it, and aren't scared to pay for it.

Since when is a whore a "sex worker"?
It's interesting how the media forms and selects these terms of art for the groups they favor and the groups they look down upon. |

They are a disenfranchised minority that wouldn't have to do that kind of work if it wasn't for the oppression of the white male!! You might hurt their feelings! That is if whores had feelings. Souless creatures for sure. |

We've seen prostitution spike in areas of the country where there have been large economic booms where the majority of people involved were men in the past in this nation. Look at the gold rush and the boom towns where the large percentage were men. I wouldn't be shocked to find that the large oil boom where guys are making over $100K and even Walmart workers are making four times normal pay has created a rise in prostitution. It's all about supply and demand folks.
I don't see any issue with Prostitution. It is just religious bullshit that it's against the law. |
|
I'm not surprised.
In the Silicon Valley, San Jose/Santa Clara area, the single male/female ratio is 8 single women for every 10 single men. So it comes as no surprise whatsoever that whores would fill the gap. -Gator |

If the CA .gov was smart, they would legalize, put controls down and profit.

So she fixes herself up one weekend and picks up a couple of clients. She has her rent money and the .gov doesn't know anything about it. So no tax revenue. Vulcan94 |

Guys that lack social skills and looks to get pussy using another tactic, what do you expect?
I live in a summer resort community that is filled with super rich. A few of my past female employees told me how they would get approached by nerdy wealthy guys who would ask them to go on shopping dates where the dude would pick up the tab. The implication was the girls would reciprocate with sex.

"Sex worker", "undocumented worker," ...
Interesting use of language. |

Sex workers? I thought they were called prostitutes when alive but then became hookers when dead

I'll bet there's a lot of blow being snorted there too. Or at least a lot of smashed up Adderall.

There is nothing wrong with women working to earn a living. I have more respect for them than those who sit around all day and collect welfare.

I helped open a friend's restaurant (create web site, setup POS system, run network cabling, etc.) in Atherton about twenty miles from Santa Clara, and I didn't see any females that were single. There were a few women with wedding rings on, but out of the hundreds of people I saw in the packed large bar the week I was there, not a one was a single female. I was looking because my friend, that is a multimillionaire after working for Sun and just turned fifty, mentioned he has never been on a date. He thought opening a restaurant would help, but as far as I've heard, it hasn't. The ratio I saw was 50:0.z |

I have been a silicon valley engineer.
A 90 -120 hour work week doesn't leave much time for a traditional relationship. Add in a 6 figure salary and $300 "date" begins to look like a reasonable cost/time trade.

Damn a lot has changed in the past ten years. I lived in San Jose back in 05 and I was surrounded by girls at the restaurant I worked at, most of them single. I also was fortunate to be one of only two straight guys in the whole restaurant. I'm sure the whole ratio applies to places where these nerds work, office buildings or what have you, but it didn't seem like a town full of desperate nerds at the time…at least judging by the employees/customers I saw on a daily basis
