PB2Y Coronado - my father often flew right seat on these when he was a squadron maintenance officer for NATS at Pearl Harbor during WWII. These and R5Ds were his favorite aircraft of that time.

Seaplanes are always sexy.  So much flexibility with a useful load.  But I suspect all the worst maintenance of both boat and plane .  These guys were trying to do a modernized Grumman G-21 Goose but are sadly defunct.

They were still expensive in the late 80's/early 90's, but They and TBF's were the "Affordable" warbirds, you could find them in good condition and decent time left before MOH for under $50K....over the next then years they just rocketed up in price.

We used to get the collings foundation at the airport I was working at. Over the years I got 2 rides on the B17 and 1 on the B24 for free perks of slinging gas and dumping biz jet shitters

Nope, no HDR just Lightroom.

Yep, I was up early for the first shot. I was lucky to have been an official photog for the airshow, so I had unlimited ramp access.

I shoot only in RAW. My workflow varies, lots of time I just simply go off gut feelings when I edit. Almost every photo I edit is an experimentation with various workflows. My basic workflow though, is...import into Lightroom, do some basic editing there, then go into Nik and play around with lighting, texture, details, then back into Lightroom for some final tweaking with dodging, burning, ect, ect. I think this style of editing is what leads people to think I shoot HDR. I get asked that a lot.

About 2 years ago a company in Oshkosh that does turbo conversions on the DC-3/C-47/C-53 airframes was looking in their backlot for parts on some of their donor airfames and noticed something. One of their donor airframes was the first C-47 over Normandy on D-Day - "That's All...Brother". They ran a big fundraising campaign and are currently restoring her with the intent of flying her in the next "Daks over Normandy" flyover for the 75th anniversary of D-day.

The PA-48 Enforcer was the last version of the Mustang to be developed with the intent of bidding for a military contract. It was a strengthened P-51 airframe with a turbo conversion with the intent of being used as a COIN and infantry support aircraft. The military passed on it and eventually bought OV-10's and ultimately the A-10 to fulfill similar roles. If I remember correctly, they actually used Civilian-converted Cavalier Mustangs as the donors (hence the wingtip tanks), versus using MilSpec D/K models.

If we were talking jets {C-140 JetStar, C-141, C-5)... I would have brought up Dad, Elvis, Jackie Cochran & Chuck Yeager, Leo Sullivan (Dad called him an empty suit
in front of the Burbank & Marietta VPs in the latter 1960s.  Most of the Burbank VPs remembered my Dad from the Skunk Works with Kelly Johnson)...

Dad is still walking, talking and does his best to make every 1st Tuesday of the Month Lockheed Flight Engineering Frat Breakfast at the Marietta Diner.
Jim Campbell, Eddie Rickenbacker's last personal Flight Engineer, usually makes sure that Dad gets there and back.

Dad will be 97 on 18OCT16.  BTW, he was the B-29 Chief Flight Engineer Instructor at Alamogordo.  He became best friends with Lt. Col. Otto Mueller, CO of the School.
Dad said that Otto would purchase two cheap JUGS of red wine on Sunday, sign for two M1 carbines and they would go shoot rattlesnakes.

Again, his favorite aircraft of all time: L-1649A.
