My wife bought this for me at a heavily discounted rate and gave it to me for Christmas the first year we were married

Bare bones Rock Island, hand fit parts bought one at a time on sale, stripped to bare metal and hot blued in my front yard.

Cheapest, and closest to original, of the six 1911's that I own is this actual 1911 (not a 1911 A-1).  Having been refinished, and buffed to within an inch of it's life, I picked it up at a gun show, probably 20 years ago, for $135.

I replaced the plastic grips that were on it, the grip screws, the barrel bushing and slide stop, but other than that, all I've done is shoot it.  With no paperwork, and no known history, it resides in the bottom drawer of my desk except for the occasional infrequent outing when a "cheap" and unobtrusive carry piece is desirable.

My Colt 1911's were less the 500.00 apiece brand new during the 1980's,does that count ?

About the same price as a new CZ 75 now.

Bottom one is a Colt 1991, former range gun.  It's my beater, and I think it was under $350.

Top one is a Les Baer with elephant ivory.  That was more than $350.

Here is my RIA MS.  I kind of used it to practice some of my gunsmithing skills on.  So maybe it doesn't count.

I love Police auctions and gun stores that don't know what they have.

Police Auction,  1932 Colt .38 super $250

Different Police auction, Series 70 Colt, factory engraving $400

Gun shop purchase. Frame is a series 70 Colt NM GC, which I discovered when I took it apart and found the sear depressor and spring.

It cost me another $125 for a NM GC series 70 slide.  The pistol cost $400, the slide, $125 so for $525 I have a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup.

I fit the beavertail safety and thumb safety.

Did I mention I love police auctions.

I had one of these.  It was my first semi-auto handgun.  Traded it off as soon as I could, it jammed at least once a magazine.

This one functions perfectly but you just can't depend on it to go boom.   I guess that's less than perfect, huh?
It was free so...

no picture right now but I have a 1911 norinco I bought for 295 years ago.

Course then I ruined it by putting adjustable sights on it, and a adjustable trigger. Only now do I appreciate the stock GI look, almost thinking about putting the stock sights back on and putting the stock trigger back in.

I'm watching this thread closely, if there is a black friday sale on rock island etc. I think I'll be picking one up.

I don't have any "cheap" ones. But I  owned RIA, and was happy with it.

And for the record, and can't believe I'm the first to say it:  a fucking piece of shit Llama is not a 1911, nor should it ever be considered one!
