A 586 no dash with lots of miles on it.  It shot three ten point legs for the distinguished revolver badge.

I had one, JUNK!  The 19 is S&W's 357mag opus, even better than the 27, had one of them also.  And because you're a newb, YES, 4"bbl is the ONLY 357mag revolver!??

Nice. I dang near gave my buddy a 586, because he needed a leg gun. I hope he appreciates it. Lol

I'm sure he would.  My 686 no dash (posted earlier) was a six inch high patridge revolver too.  This 586 was a wreck when I got it.  I was shooting Pythons before this one and I couldn't win.  That is until someone advised me to switch to S&W.  I totally rebuilt the action on it and had the barrel cryo-freezed.  It turned out good.  I got my first ten point leg next to Hemphill.

I would say normal wear for a 40 year old firearm

Looks like decent shape. If you scout around, you can probably find a set of original grips for $60-70. I say buy it. You won't find a no-dash 686 for less in today's market. They are solid last-a-lifetime guns.

Check the timing though, and spin the cylinder to make sure the crane isn't bent.

That would be sweet with some proper Goncalo Alves on her. 6 inch dash 1 from the vault

Believe it or not, it was refinished in the eighties.

Good luck!  It's been many years since I competed.  I think I went to the nationals twice when it was in Jackson.  My department didn't really do anything for me.  I had to take time off and pay for everything.  It was just too expensive.

I'm guessing you were dropped on your head quite a bit as a child. Your post is full of ignorance.

The 19 is great, but the 686 is better, especially for a duty gun or to feed a steady diet of .357 Mag. As for 4" being the only size, you obviously haven't handled a 3" round butt 65, which is one of the best carry revolvers ever made.

Bingo. I agree 100%. Those 3in round butt k-frames are excellent CCW revolvers. As for me... no 686 here (I had a 686+ 20 years ago but traded it), just a number of k-frames of various configurations, a number of j-frames of various configurations including a Model 60 with 3in barrel and night sights, and a single L frame Model 69.  :)

Well, since everyone is posting pics . . .

Here's mine. A former Missouri State Highway Patrol 686, 4" barrel, complete with stamped MSHP shield:

Also, as long as we're showing pics, here's a 686 I no longer own . . . a 3" barrel CS-1 variant:

I won a few State Championships with this one.  It wasn't engraved then.

I had a 686 no-dash back in the 80's that was my first duty revolver.  I currently have a 4-inch 586 no dash with a AAA serial number.  I also have a no dash 681.

The only  686 I really wanted was one of the 3" "Customs" guns. Mainly because I love 3" revolvers.

See post #12 above. The gun was basically a safe queen. I preferred other guns for range days and it was too big to carry concealed. At the crazy prices these things bring it made more sense to sell it.

A 3" 686 is not like a 3" M65.
