Go 1911 if you don’t have one already. I’d save up a little more and spring for a Ruger, SW or even Remington’s are supposed to be decent

Are you going to carry it?  G21.  The M1911A1 is a fucking boat anchor.

Can't really go wrong with either one, though.

I've had several G30's and G21's over the years. I've tried to like them and just don't... keep in mind, I'm a Glock guy...

I really enjoy shooting my rock island tac.

Don't buy the 21 if you have girly hands. Otherwise it's great.

Doubt Ild carry it,  maybe take it on the road or camping.

Already have a Glock G23.

Do not look at the Dan Wesson Wraith.  Don't do it.

edit: can't believe I had the manuf. wrong.  I put a Hybrid on it and can't put it down.

My vote is the 1911. Otherwise look at the M&P45.

For range use I’d go Rock Island (actually, Ruger). For carry or customization I’d go Glock. I have a 21, but don’t shoot it often, thought it’s a fine shorter. I mainly got it to go with my Kriss SBR. There really is no comparison in terms of shooting experience - the 1911 is pretty great.

I have a G30. You might want to consider one of those as well.  A little more compact than the G21 which might be desirable if you'll be carrying it, but you can always use G21 magazines when you want the higher capacity. So it's more versatile in that regard.

ETA: Click the 'add poll' button above the OP.

ETA2: Just noticed you said you won't be carrying it. Disregard then.

You know, I think I'd go with the G21 regardless.  More rounds while still being light in comparison to the 1911, less maintenance, no hammer bite (which seems to be a fairly common problem with the RIA 1911), just a better combat pistol all around.  Plus, you're already familiar with the peculiarities of the Glock pistol system.

I bought the same gun but in single stack. It's a definitely a shooter. Smooth as a custom pistol.

And it costs more than both of them combined.

I would go with the 1911 since you already have a 23. It is the same capacity in a smaller package, and you don’t really gain anything with the 45acp over the 40sw.

Between the two, I would go 1911 every time.

But for around the same money, the HK45 is a great full size and for some reason I have seen them on sale at different times over the past 6 months between 6 7 hundred.

Also look for a nice clean used folded slide Sig 220.  I have one I have been carrying for so long its been refinished twice.  To give you an idea how long it says West Germany.

Go 1911. I saved for a long time a little here and there and bought a ruger and absolutely love it. Very accurate and no problems at all with any ammo. Spare mags $21. They can be had for around $700. I don't like the full length guide rods on the rock island guns and the sights on the gi suck.  If not a 1911 it would be a glock 21.

The G30s has no more felt recoil than a G21 to me.  You might look the G41 begore you decide.  The G21 is nice though.

I have 3 1911's, but EVERYONE needs a G21.  No better, more reliable, hard to destroy Glock out there.  I don't have the link but search for Bigbore (Steve's) torture test he did a few years back.  Including dropping it out of an airplane.

I have a Gen 3 21SF with the Glock rail and love it.  Never given a minutes trouble no matter what I feed it.

I voted G21 because I had a Rock Island 1911 that just would not cycle reliably.

I even sent it back to them and it came back to me with the same problems.

However, OP should save some more pennies and get a Colt, Springfield or Sig 1911

I voted 1911 only because I don't like the 21 but I would have if it had been a 21/41 and besides, every real man should have at lest one 1911.

Depends. I voted G21 because if you intend to carry it at all it will be better and lighter.

The RIA will need work. Sharp edges that need smoothing, magazines that won’t sit flush. I have a RIA tac that I love.
