Quoted: It is already happening in my city. No proactive policing has happened in the ghetto for months. The shooting and murder numbers are through the roof and the city council members that are responsible for those areas are screaming about their crime rates. Last year these were the same council members that were calling for police reform, blah, blah, blah. Now their constituents are screaming for safety and more help from the police. But it is too late because the police already shut the proactive faucet off because of the council member's police blood lust. View Quote Which part of Texas is Minneapolis in? |

I used to do over 100 warnings a month (I only did tickets for DUIs, DWO License, Uninsured, or negligence in an accident), 40 DUIs a year, and dozens of bar fight related arrests. Now I sit one level below the surface in an unknown (to most) parking garage and watch youtube/netflix for 10 hrs while searching for a new job. I'm on a proactive unit so we don't get dispatched to calls. We used to keep ourselves busy, not anymore! I haven't pulled over a car in over a year.

A close friend of mine and a newer police officer got a taste of this, yesterday.
He is a young go-getter who wants to chase tweakers and stolen cars and the like, and he's been doing a great job of it. He got assigned to a special task for for such things. His task force, which includes K9s, has been involved in numerous arrests last month, to include SIX K9 bites on fleeing, violent suspects. His unit is now being disbanded. Not that they had too many arrests, but they had too many "violent" arrests. The politicians in charge don't want videos of K9 bites on violent suspects, or uses of force on violent, resisting suspects on the news. They want to say that XX many people were arrested, but no force was used. |

Sounds like they're getting what they voted for, and getting it good and hard.
Will the wake up for the next election? I'm not holding my breath. |

When a broke city like Memphis has to pays out 27 million because some combative career criminal junkie OD'ed while being arrested it sets a pretty negative precedent. |

Some guys on my agency have apparently started telling crime victims "This offense is not a mandatory arrest under state law, and I am unwilling to accept the personal liability of attempting an arrest. Here is your case number for the report. Hopefully investigators identify the suspect and forward charges and they respond to a mailed court summons."
I don't blame them one bit. |

Well, yeah.
People living in these areas don’t want law and order. They want “freedom” to murder each other. Give the voters what they voted for. |

Quoted: We talking like violent crime? or someone who just had their car broken into? View Quote I'm sure mostly the latter because as salty as my co-workers and I are becoming I can't imagine any of them letting a serious violent felony slide. That said, the only thing I am required to make an arrest upon probable cause for is a domestic violence assault or a violation of a domestic restraining order. All other crimes, everything from DUI to murder, are something I simply have the power to arrest for absent a warrant. Technically a warrant is a commandment by a court to arrest, though in practice not really since a lot of them aren't extraditable, but if a judge wanted to make a point they could hold you in contempt for knowing refusing to execute an arrest warrant. There is absolutely nothing legally unsound about handling virtually all non domestic criminal offenses with a report to be forwarded for investigation and if the prosecutor believes there is PC they can seek an arrest warrant. |

His house was burglarized and his guns were stolen. He had real trouble even getting an LEO to show up as they just wanted to give him an incident/case # over the phone. It's sad to watch how bad things have become in such a short period of time. |

I was reading your post thinking about how many commas I'd need in my pay check in order to look at some poor schmuck who just had his eye socket broken and read him legalese about why I'm not obligated to make an arrest View Quote There's a lot of poor schmucks out there that really need to brush up on their self defense skills because they've decided by their voting choices that the social contract keeping them safe from street violence is racist and revoked the ability of the enforcers of that social contract to actually enforce it, at risk of criminal prosecution should a member of a certain class suffer death or injury while being apprehended. Maybe what they need is someone telling them that dialing three magic numbers into a phone won't save them and perhaps they've been relying on someone else to handle violence for them for so long that they don't know what it is anymore until it's visited on them - so either handle it yourself or stop targeting those who are willing to do it for you. |

Quoted: If only people could get what they voted for... View Quote lol full circle. I'll quit posting after this so I don't hijack the thread but outside of becoming a logger or manufacturing methamphetamines I didn't have a lot of career opportunities where I grew up. Moving to Seattle and getting a job was always considered the responsible career choice to make something of myself. I graduated the same year Lehman Brother's collapsed and I took any job I could, which happened to be the night shift in a bad part of town (pioneer square) I've had some pretty disturbing experiences and it's def not something I voted for. There are always decent people caught up in the shit. Seattle's a poor example of this but in the long run Idiocracy rules win out and we'll all be subjected to what the mouth breathers voted for (if our votes are counted at all) |

I wonder what happens when the awakened citizens notice that their city has turned into a scene from the Escape from New York movie. It sounds good being progressive until your car gets stolen and you realize that no detective will investigate it. The worst part is that the victimized will realize things aren't safe anymore and will just move. They'll probably continue to vote for progressives in a new locale too, as they can't fathom that they've made a mistake in their thinking.
I can only hope that seeing crime rise to Brazil slum level will cause people to have a "learning experience" and change their outlook to the police. Otherwise, you better park your car in the garage and board up those windows. |

I don't know why anyone cares. Be responsible for your own safety and security and you'll probably never have a need for a cop. I inow I'll never complain about not getting pulled over.
