There are several non-Leo types that can get authority to run tags but if any were found to run a tag for a reason other than what is authorized they can get in trouble or have that authority revoked.

With all the crazy threads that OP posts.....it wouldn't surprise me if this whole story is 100% fabricated.

You’re in Pearland? At least 30 Arfcommers within a short radius with imitation crab meat, Homer Buckets and NODS to come help.

Quoted: Buddies truck was stolen this way. Guy would drive his toe truck around during the day and pickup old cars out of people's driveways. Then he would take them to a scrap place. Apparently of they are a certain age or older their want any ownership paperwork involved. They finally caught the guy but he must have picked 100 cars View Quote How long did it take that HOA woman to steal and crush a vintage pickup truck, 45 minutes? |

Quoted: This. I am not aware of a way for any non-LEO to run plates. Do you have access to a LEO resource OP? If so, why are they not already there with you, and rather just gave you his address? Seems like a huge liability for a cop to tell a regular Joe "hey here's address of the guy who stole your car, happy hunting!" There is commercial software licensed for several states that allow a subscriber access to State & County data, Lic Plates, VINS, addresses, Names, DOB, ect... It takes a minute and BINGO - name, address, DOB & DL # all there... |

Quoted: He was caught on camera, so I had his plates checked. Am waiting outside his place now for the cops to arrive. He used a tow truck to tow my car. Don’t see where the car is, he probably dropped it off somewhere before heading home. He lives in a large trailer park with a predominantly Hispanic population near Pearland. What would you do if you were in this situation? View Quote You ever watch John Wick? There’s your answer. |

Quoted: If I’m not mistaken, Carfax will return a lot of information including registered address from a license plate View Quote There are a few databases that you can retrieve car tags, vin numbers, etc, or run a name or address and find vehicles registered, some states even sell that information direct to businesses. |
