What's the low-down on this? Military Aircraft don't have civilian Registration "N" Numbers nor would they have "EXPERIMENTAL" placarded on the side. ETA: At the same time a Civilian Aircraft would not be armed to the hilt. Packed with EW, ECW, ECCW, and Commo, but not armament. |

IIRC correctly its a UAV Armed Military UAV still wouldn't have a Civilian Registration Number or Experimental placard. They, Military UAV, operate under Army Regulation AR 95-1, not Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations known as the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). They are not regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration. They are regulated by Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL and the Department of Defense. |

It's owned by Boeing and is currently in production, hence the N prefix. Designed for export though. |

The relationship between Boeing and MD Helicopters on the AH-6 is an interesting one. Hughes Helicopter was broken up in 1999, with Boeing retaining the military models and MD Helicopters retaining the civilian models. MD Helicopters subsequently struggled and was snapped up off the trash heap by Patriarch Partners, a Wall Street private equity firm headed by Lynn Tilton, a Master of the Universe with a penchant for the spotlight.
MD Helicopters has been competing for military contracts as well, mainly in the foreign market. And since the AH-6i is based on the MD500 airframe, MD is collaborating with Boeing to bring it to the worldwide market.

What is the maroon Commando patch that keeps popping up on guys in Afghanistan. I had a team from 3rd MSOB where I was in Afghanistan and they all wore that patch. I never knew what it was, and I'm seeing Army guys wearing it too. |

The Black Hawk was found in pieces at rest in 25 feet of water with remaining two crew still inside. According to Army Aircrews it is the Co-Pilot and 1 Crew Engineer (Crew Chief). I would think that they were pinned inside when the ship rolled when it hit the water. |

Earlier in this thread, the book "Hunting The Jackal" was recommended. I picked up a used copy on Amazon for about $3, with free 2-day PRIME shipping.
Last night I sat down to read a few pages, and ended up reading over half the book. That says something, as I am not a book reader. Very rarely do I sit and read, but that book is AMAZING! I highly recommend it. Very well done and takes you right into the action. I love the way it is written from the highs to the lows. Thanks to those who suggested it. |

There was a candle light vigil at the Navarre Beach Pier last Wednesday, day of the crash. The pier is about 2 miles from the crash site. Hundreds showed up for that as well. I should have or need to still get pics of the support the community has shown. I went down to the Command Post on Thursday to help out with some flags and EOC equipment, and I couldn't believe the amount of food and drinks the public had dropped off. Navarre, FL is a huge military community and the public showed massive support. Every national holiday, a group always puts flags out on a highway 98. They did the same on Wed. Afternoon. Flags lined neighborhoods, stores, and the highways. As I stated above, local business and citizens dropped of a shit ton of food and drinks for all of the responders starting Wednesday morning and every day until Friday night. A few businesses cooked and served breakfast in their restaurant free of charge for all involved in the search, rescue, and recovery. Local churches also opened up Wed. night and had prayer services to remember those killed in the crash. Really was awesome to see the support of the community. Sorry to get off topic, just wanted to share what's been going on regarding the crash. |

Sorry to get off topic, just wanted to share what's been going on regarding the crash. Quoted: Went to the memorial service yesterday. The turnout was pretty awesome. A solid 400 or so folks showed up. There was a candle light vigil at the Navarre Beach Pier last Wednesday, day of the crash. The pier is about 2 miles from the crash site. Hundreds showed up for that as well. I should have or need to still get pics of the support the community has shown. I went down to the Command Post on Thursday to help out with some flags and EOC equipment, and I couldn't believe the amount of food and drinks the public had dropped off. Navarre, FL is a huge military community and the public showed massive support. Every national holiday, a group always puts flags out on a highway 98. They did the same on Wed. Afternoon. Flags lined neighborhoods, stores, and the highways. As I stated above, local business and citizens dropped of a shit ton of food and drinks for all of the responders starting Wednesday morning and every day until Friday night. A few businesses cooked and served breakfast in their restaurant free of charge for all involved in the search, rescue, and recovery.
