I need a smaller ccw for when the G19/G17 won't cut it.

I don't like pocket carry so it's going to be iwb.

Attire: suit or slacks and a blazer, also will double as summer carry.

I've owned a G43 but couldn't shoot it worth a shit. But I'm open to try again.

The list so far to review is as follows:

G43
Shield 9mm
Shield 45acp
Walter PPS
XDS 9mm
XDS 45acp
Nano 9mm
Sig 290rs

What do I need to get ?

I normally carry a G19 or a G26.   I went w/ a G43 for my single stack carry gun.  It's a huge upgrade from the P32 it replaced.  For someone that carries a Glock all the time it's a no brainer.  The trigger and reset are the same as my other guns.

PPS M2 or spend the money on putting a quality trigger in the G43.

Happy with my PPS M2 in its Stealthgear IWB holster.  Very good for summer carry.  It's a good shooter at the cost of a couple more ounces of weight compared to the G43.  I added Tractiongrips and it feels really good in the hand.

You would be doing yourself an injustice if you didn't look into this gun. It has the second best striker fired factory trigger only to the Shield Performance model, but the shield is a bigger gun and more expensive.

People gonna laugh but I really liked my old school Kahr CW9 I carried way back in 07. It's probably the "thinnest feeling" single stack I've carried.

I love the K9 as well as the K40, but to refer to a Kahr as old school, or think that '07 was "way back then" are both pretty funny.

I carry a shield 9mm in a crossbreed supertuck when I can't carry my Glock 19. I didn't like the 43 either.

I gots da 9 Shield wif da green beemz. Decent for a striker and has some upgrades available if you're so inclined.

938 Sig for a locked and cocked carry.

Have to go fatter for more than 8 rounds.

ETA: Also didn't like the way the 43 fit my hand.

Sig 938 is what I ended up with for the type of carry you're talking.

EDIT: Comparing to my wife's Shield, it's definitely a little bit thicker in the grip.

Guess the G42 is out, but it's fantastic for pocket carry. Super thin. Doesn't check the 9mm or larger for some though.

I really like my G43, especially with Hyve tech +2's. it makes the grip almost as long as a 19. Have you shot one with extensions?

I don't have any experience with Hipowers, but aren't they rather thin? They aren't compact but you didn't specify compact so I thought I'd throw it out there.

I have an XD-s 4.0 in 9.  Like you, thin was the priority.  I liked the way it fit my hand.  Pointed on target more naturally than others.  Also liked the short mag for concealment with the option of the slightly longer mag for a couple extra rounds and better grip (one of each come with the gun).  I've been very happy with it, but you should put hands on all the different legitimate options mentioned in this thread.  If it feels weird in your hands and isn't a good fit for you, then it doesn't matter that some other keyboard commando suggests you buy it.  I had a Block 23 for a while, and I felt the same way about it that you feel about the 43.  Nothing wrong with the gun, I just didn't shoot it nearly as well as I can shoot my XD-s.

BTW, if you get an XD-s, get the 4-inch barrel.  It's no harder to conceal, gives you a longer sight radius making it a little easier to shoot more accurately, and just a smidge more velocity (still plenty out of the 3.3, but hey, I'd rather have more than less since there really isn't a significant tradeoff in concealment between the two).

The 238 and 938 are simply the best small guns you can buy (and I have many small guns - just look in my pants).  Having said that, I carry a LCP II daily due to it's light weight, thinness, and almost Glock-like trigger..

If you couldn't shoot the 43 well I doubt the sheild or pps will do you any better. The sig 938 has straight pull s/a trigger so it may be what you need.

I like mine, too.  I actually bought it for my wife but found out that I shoot it nearly as well as my bigger pistols.  I have shot the 938, Shield, and XDS.  All of them were good shooters, but I'm not switching from the LC9S.

I was really impressed with the G43, but if it didnt work for you my next suggestions would be a Shield in 9mm or a 1911 in 9mm.
9mm just due to ammo cost.

If money is no object, go 45 ACP as JMB intended the 1911 to be.

What's wrong with it?  Mine has been a good weapon. It's reliable, incredibly low recoil, good sights, accurate -- I really do not have anything negative to say about it other than that it seems a little finicky feeding the Winchester flat nose ball ammo (maybe a 1% failure to feed rate).

Too much recoil for a 380.  A problem common to all blowback 380s.  Small locked-breech 9mms have about the same recoil as blowback 380s, so in that case just carry a 9mm imo.

380s like the 238, G42, and LCP II have noticeably less recoil, with the 238 being the best behaved of the bunch.
