That would be Best, a catalog store.  It was on Arden Way in Sacramento.  There were no exterior doors on the building.  A section slid out to allow entry.  I used to live down the street.  Both that Best, and the Toy's R Us next door were featured on a show called That's Incredible.  The Toy's R Us was supposed to be haunted.  There's late night security footage of bikes riding around by themselves.  It kind of stole the thunder from Best.

I loved the Best catalog. I got some of my best Christmas gifts from Best. The Guns of Navarone play set by Marx was one I wish I still had.

I seem to have some vague memory of the store.

I really can’t zero in on it though........what kind of store was it?  What did they sell?

I used to go to the one that looked half-demolished at Almeda Mall south of Houston near Ellington AFB (now JRB).  I bought several Star Wars X-Wings when they had their going out of business sale.  Good times, when life was simpler.

Oooooh, that would be less awkward now- since my German wife seems to not really appreciate me playing with mine. I tell her, over and over, that we're simply assaulting the evil General Zero and his cannon, but she seems skeptical...

Pretty much everything and they were around well into the 90s. The one in Sacramento with the removable wall had a huge toy section, electronics, sporting goods, electronics, jewelry.  I remember buying Commodore 64 games there back in High School.

I don't remember hearing that TRU was haunted but as a kid that exact store was my favorite place to go. All the toy guns, Shogun Warriors, transforming robots from not only Transformers and Gobots but Macross, Mospeada, Orguss etc. GI Joe had a HUGE section.

As an adult I went back there with my Father, he was fighting cancer and couldn't drive but he wanted to buy a birthday present for his grandson. Lots of feelings right there where TRU and Best used to be. Oh that BK that used to be there and it burned down. Some good memories from when my parents would take us to TRU then we would walk over to BK afterwards and get a cheeseburger.

Miss ya Dad

Oh man, that picture takes me back. Not the architecture of the store, but the feeling of going to a department store like that where they have everything you could want. Those old, "primitive" cars in the parking lot. Just KNOWING there all sorts of treasures in there waiting to be discovered.

We had a store like that when I was a kid, it was called Two Guys. Just a plain looking store on the outside, but toy heaven on the inside. Toy guns, GI Joe gear, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Corgi like crazy, train sets, slot cars... man. I bought my Mattel M-16 marauder there.

One Saturday, my best friend Dave and I had some money burning holes in our pockets for some GI Joe gear, and couldn't find anyone to take us. We were probably 8 or 9 at the time. We hopped on our bikes and rode 3 miles each way through the city to satisfy our Jones at Two Guys. A great adventure. When I got home and my Mom asked what I'd been doing all day, and I told her, she blew her top. It was worth it, though.
