That is a decent stout if not a tad too bitter on back end. I had a few cases of it in the garage till it got skunky and I tossed it. After a beer festival I was working was over and the distributor didn't want to haul it all back he gave it to me along with a truckload of other beers to drag home. I was handing out cases of beer for a year, LOL.

Guinness
Black Butte Porter
Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter

Those are all in my regular rotation.  I'm not a fan of the flavored porters and stouts that seem to be everywhere lately though.

Loves me some porters!

I got some Kentucky Bourbon Barrel brand peppermint porter a couple weeks ago. It was way better than it sounds!

When a friend of mine and I were homebrewing, vanilla porter was the bestest!

Goose Island Bourbon County Stout - only released on Black Friday, I try to get at least 6 bottles so I can have one as a treat every so often.  They are usually around 14-15% and I do so greatly enjoy them!  This was the first time in about 10 years that I saw any of the "special" bottles.  I was able to get a few of those and am looking forward to trying them!

KY Bourbon barrel ale is always a safe standby for me and most restaurants around me have it whereas they don't have many decent stouts (tons of IPA )

Rasputin, Black Butte are both also good.

Against the Grain out of Louisville, KY has a couple good barrel aged stouts.

Braxton Brewery (local to me) has a lot of stouts - but most of them are bitter to me and as much as I want to support a local brewery, they just don't click with my taste buds

The oatmeal stouts are a nice change for me as well.  It seems like there are a ton of local breweries now and I try to sample some whenever I can while traveling - seems like about a 50/50 shot of a good stout or it it bitter gross!

New bottle?  Dragon's Milk is my favorite.  Do like several Founders.
Best?  Maybe Goose Island Bourbon Reserve, hard to find though.

Was just imtroduced to Goose Island, and it is amazing.

Can't get enough of it, but only in small doses.

One bottle will fill you up pretty quick.

I'm not a huge fan of the chocolate stuff.  For stout, my go to is Sam Smith's oatmeal stout.  Just picked up a few more bottles yesterday.

This brewery in NH makes a great porter.  The best bottled porter I've found is Alaskan smoked porter.

Samuels Smith's is awesome.  Great Lakes was a big deal when they became established here many moons ago but all of their beers are way to hoppy for me although I will drink Edmund Fitzgerald Porter now and then.

I bought myself a grainfather set up for Christmas. I’m finally making the leap from extract brewing to all grain. I’m planning my first brewing with the new system in January.

I like all beer styles except sours and smoked but stout and porters are my favorite.

I like the high abv imperials and barrel aged beers. I just picked up a 4 pack of this the other day, looking forward to trying it. I’ve never had utopias and I don’t recall loving the plain ole world wide stout, but the 17-18 abv is intriguing

I remember liking Yeti Imperial Stout but it's been over 10 years since I had one. Their website states it has a bold hops flavor which I definitely would not like so I'm not sure if they changed the recipe or if the malts were very strong as well. In any case, I would try it again but it looks like it just comes in cans now - bummer!

Any thoughts?

I very rarely drink beer.  I simply never liked it.  I find IPA's undrinkable.  Then I tried Guiness...  I actually really liked it.  I had some Yuengling Hersheys porter this year that surprised me how good it was.   I need to try and find some of these and give them a try.

I've been drinking stouts and porters for almost 30 years. This one is one my absolute favorites:

https://www.samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/DS8_2594-1-THIN.jpg

Samuel Adam's Honey Porter was also a favorite in the 1990s. Although I hate hops, I will put up with a lightly hoppy dark beer. Feel free to tell me about your less/no hops stouts and porters. (Yes, I still like Guinness!)

(This is like my first non-political non-gun post! Feels, weird...)

Sammy Smith is the real deal. It is still Hand made, so many buckets of this, so many buckets of that. If you have a tavern in Tadcaster County your beer gets delivered by Horse and wagon! The Brewery is on the Bucket List for us. Their Oatmeal Stout is the top of the list!

When I go to a bar I ask them what's your darkest beer. If they say Guinness, I ask, what's your second darkest?

Nothing against Guinness, I just had too much of it in my 20s and I'm ready to move on.

And if you've ever had this, then Guinness tastes like Miller Light.
