A can, with QD mount brake.
21 cocking handle and buttpad.
Heavy buffer.
#17 LP (will smooth out recoil and let you shoot suppressed).
Magpul grip module with a replacement/reworked trigger. I have a Springfield in mine, waiting for Timney.
Wide handguard with light bipod.
LPVO.
Vickers padded BFG sling.

The A3 stock is ok if you want/need to save some space but they are stupid high right now. I ended up taking my A3 stock and building a G3K clone off of it.

When I was in the Danish army, 30-round mags for the G3 were the mythical grail that everyone wanted, but nobody had ever seen.

I've seen 40-rounders done that way by both the Rhodesians and South Africans, for both the FAL and G-3.

HK actually did make a 30rnd mag for a contract  Their are pictures in the Blake Stevens book.  I have owned a couple.

Hopefully that's sarcasm... recent (as in the last 5-10 years) reviews of Bill's work have not been good.

TBH, they can be pretty comparable rifles. Yes a FAL is better in some regards, while the HK in others. You can fix both up/improve both. A modern AR10 based platform is probably going to be better than both in most regards. The main downside to the HK from a recreational shooting standpoint is that it fucks up the brass, yes it can be reloaded, but its more effort overall.

If you can find an A3 retractable stock for $200-250 give or take, I'd get one.

Might not be able to find one now, as prices are stupid for some reason on all things. Don't get suckered into paying $300-400+.

A3 stock certainly adds "the cool factor". Personally, I did not find the A3 comfortable to utilize for more than a limited round count of firing.

It really depends on your build and cheek. But it is pretty bad for some people. I actually had worse issues with certain types of fixed fal stocks, but no issues with the para stock as an example. I don't find the A3 stock that terrible on a full sized gun in semi tho.

Yeah, then you still have to find it, clean it etc. Its certainly doable, but its more of a PITA than a Fal that puts them in a neat pile next to you. Plus the brass lasts for fewer reloading cycles.

Don't use Bill Springfield.

If you want a trigger that isn't a hazard get a Williams Trigger.

Be wary of Bill Springfield. I was speaking with a very reputable and knowledgeable smith who works on HK rifles. He had a customer send in his PTR-91 with a Springfield trigger. The gun had an OOB detonation, which caused pretty serious damage to the rifle. The cause was the trigger job with a hammer and sear that had too much material taken off.

Bone structure on your face. Different results with different stocks. Though most of the excessive recoil stuff about g3s comes from shitbox worn out century examples with bad bolt gaps.
