Buddy lost his suppressor in 8ft of Murky, cold water. Due to the water temp and bottom conditions recovery is beyond our capabilities.
We have no dive equipment, or underwater metal detector, and the suppressor is only slightly magnetic.
Any ideas?
Anyone know any recovery divers near East Texas?
Right now the pond is very low.  This is private property so we have access.

THE FRONT FELL OFF

Location: Pittsburgh, TX
Bottom Conditions:
Muddy, logs and sticks. Raking and dredging produces sticks.
Water temp: Takes breath away when it reaches your chest
Area: Localized to a pretty specific area.  The search area and depth isn't the problem, it's the water temperature! We'd be grilling and swimming if it was warmer.
Magnet: It's not very magnetic. Tested the exact model before duplicating the failure to better understand it's aqueous properties. Computational Fluid Dynamics ordered.
Buddy did dive in immediately.
The cost of the suppressor+wait time+pain in the butt adds value to recovery.
Otters on order, streamlight custom headgear being fitted for otters.

And yes, it was a Saker Trifecta, but most likely user error.

Contact the local FD and or PD. They may have a dive team. It would be good training for them. If you can find a suppressor, you can find a body/weapon etc.

Wait, you are saying it's cold in Texas?

That's like pool water in the summer here in Michigan

But seriously, use a metal detector or a large magnet (harbor freight sells large ones).

How the hell cold are the waters in East Texas that water temperature is a factor?

The last 1.5 inches has decent magnetism. They have been magnet fishing for 3 days.

Simply going and buying a metal detector that can be used underwater would be cheaper than paying a "recovery diver".  It's only 8 feet not lost at the bottom of the sea.  Go get it.  Is the water frozen in TX now or something?

they are looking in the wrong place.  if it fell off when shot, it would act as a torpedo......and probably 10-15 meters farther out. might even be stuck in other bank depending on how wide said pond is.

I'm interested in the suppressor make/mount and the circumstances in the falling.

40° water temps. Our husbands tried too and they gave up

Thought about PD or FD, but then never invite the man and stuff. Kind of a moot point I guess since part of the NFA process is LEO notification.

Any Marine who is Water Survival Intermediate or Advance ought to be able to find it in just 8 feet of water...that is weaksauce.  How cold do you think the water is...?

What part of Texas? I might be able to steer some guys who can swim and search water like a fish your way..

This was my thought as well. Like a water toy.  Luckily it's in a narrow strip of the pond. Maybe 35ft across.

Can you drain the pond?

I've seen people drop fishing rods and they immediately rolled over the side after it and caught it within a few feet of the surface.

Early on is the best chance of recovery.

DH is a rescue diver.  I'd try the local FD or State Police and see if they'd like to use your pond for a training dive.  Otherwise be prepared to cough up some $$$, likely more than the can is worth.

8 FEET of water!!!

Your buddy should have followed it immediately,  would have taken him a whole 30 seconds.

Did you plug the location immediately at least so a diver can narrow it down a good bit or is the poor guy going to have to check the whole pond?

I'll be damned, an actual boating accident!

Posting the loss on a public forum is smart, but the body of water needs to be larger.

Might even do it off duty for access to land for hunting/shooting.  That's what I'd want in trade for my time.

It's easier to search the bottom for something like a suppressor or handgun if you can stay under.  Easier to run a pattern.

10-15 meters?  Fuck no.

You think it was traveling faster than a rifle round, with less surface area (for friction) than a rifle round, with better hydrodynamics than a rifle round?

Fuck no it wasn't.

Your in east Texas. Most of the guys on the PD or FD are probably gun guys. They would likely be happy to help you out. If you were closer to Columbus OH I’d come help you in my off time for free.
