Why do I want them ? It’s a need or a want? Tell me
want..you have been living just fine without them so far. But it is ok to want them.

Define "tactical".
Sure, I have a shit ton of military boots, but what are you doing that is "tactical"? Are you training, hiking, taking a class? I'm a little partial to Salomon shoes and hi-tops. I used in Afghanistan as an advisor after I left the military and they held up, comfortable, and were "tactile" when needed. I grabbed a pair of short boots from Go-Ruck because they were on sale and reminded me of my old USGI jungle boots which I loved so much. But hey, if you can operated with flip flops or crocs, you are already tactical! ROCK6 |
For rucking? Yeah, you want some boots designed for such.
If you're just LARPing in your neighborhood, a pair of white new balances are preferred. |

Why do you think you need them?
I wear Merrill MOAB 2's that are better than any tactical boot I've ever had. |

Quoted: Bellevilles or Danners are great. View Quote I ended up getting Viktos AR670's which are also jungle boots but aren't as comfortable as the Danners because they have more of a stiff boot sole instead of a sneaker/boot hybrid sole, they're breaking in nicely but my feet still hate me for buying them. |
Just go to your local Academy and get a pair of Bates six or 8-inch side zip boots for less than $100 and see if you really want to go there.
You need footwear that is adequate for your environment and preferences.

I wear Bates, Salomon and 511's. I never thought about it much but the 511 FAST-TAC 8" Dark Coyote with a good insole added are super comfortable and last much longer than I expected.
Salomon 4D GTX for serious hiking and tactical wall climbing shiz. |
I've been wearing these pretty much daily except in the colder months. Once broken in they're incredibly comfortable.

Quoted: Danner Acadia. Steel toe, composite toe, or regular. Insulated for freeze your ass off cold or non insulated. Low, medium or high tops. Danner re-soles the boots once they wear out. Made in the MF USA. I have switched to Merrell Moab 2 (low) waterproof for 99% of my uses.
Then I have Gortex boots for the few times I need snow/sub zero boots. Rucking in high top boots is not my idea of fun anymore. |

Quoted: I’m surprised no one has mentioned Lowas View Quote I tried Lowa Z-6S GTX and their R-8S GTX boots earlier this year, partly based on recommendations from here. I returned them all. They seemed like a well-made boot. I thought I was going to love the Z-6S before I got them. But my issue with them was the sole was far too rigid. I guess some people like that, but I don't. Walking with them felt like I had pieces of 2x6 strapped to my feet. I found it to be incredibly uncomfortable and frankly hurt my feet. I need a boot with more flex in the sole. |
I got some Bates TerraX3’s on sale for $40 recently. Super comfortable and sturdy, I wear them pretty often.

View Quote I had been wearing combat boots for most of my life working security, including in Kosovo and Cambodia. I started out wearing Merrill Chameleons in Afghanistan back in 2010, where a lot of our .mil client were wearing them and Moabs. I switched to Moab 2s in Saudi. When I added elastic lock laces, they became combat loafers, like the Chameleons, but with better support. Now that you can get them in solid coyote tan or black, they're the only shoes I wear when not wearing my Keen sandals or Merrill HydroMocs. They also worked great working the flight line in Iraq. Highly recommended, especially with lock laces. |

Any boot I've ever purchased that was advertised as a "tactical boot" never held up to significant wear, and it's not even a price point thing. I use cheap Chinese made wolverines for work now and they're holding up fine, and before that was a cheap pair of rockports that I've completely worn the soles down on (I got a few years out of them), and they otherwise still haven't fallen apart besides that. The pair of bates I had completely fell apart inside of a year. If you're just buying something to larp around in, go for it, but as a hard use boot, I don't know if I'd trust any in the $100ish dollar range. I'd hope to god something like danners last much longer, given their price point.

Quoted: Due to a screw in my ankle (see avatar), I go with the low height ones. BTW, it's been over a decade since I have worn normal height boots, and the hair STILL hasn't grown back from my shins down. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/1232/20220928_200854-2542315.jpg View Quote Ha! I thought I was the only one! I've had doctors and regular folks look at me like I was a freak of nature. I wore full boots for +/- 30 years. Same condition. |

Failed to add...I'm not tacti-cool and I'm definitely not HSLD, but I haven't found d something yet that there isn't a Merrell Moab shoe to deal with, for a reasonable price

I've bought Bates duty, and desert boots for the last 30 years, I've never had an issue except when I rolled the dice on a pair of seconds, converse made a decent tactical boot, but they're not made for hot weather, reebok took over making them, other than being hot, their comfortable as hell, never cheap out on footwear.

I know where you might be able to get a deal on some green Spec Ops boots, those should be tactical right?

Quoted: You can get Danner RATs for 60-100$ right now. I don't know if that's a tactical boot but they're damn nice for the $$. View Quote The Danner RAT is by far my favorite boot. If you take care of them and have a couple other pairs of boots to rotate they will easily last 10-15 years. |

5.11 Speed 3.0 Jungle. I’ve been issued or purchased every major brand and these are by far the best boots I’ve ever worn. They are unfortunately discontinued but you can still find them online. I purchased a couple spare pairs which should last me until I drop my retirement packet

Quoted: I know where you might be able to get a deal on some green Spec Ops boots, those should be tactical right? View Quote Nah, I'm going to keep the green Rocky's, LOL. "Good enough for the girls I date." I have Reebok, Merrill, Rocky and not-sure-mfg RAT boots. All are good, IMO, but the RAT boots are some real ass-kickers. The RAT and Merrill boots are "work" boots, the Reebok and Rocky boots are kept clean for other activities. |
