I wonder if any Americans were killed by, or died trying to capture the five guys that we just handed over. If the Taliban wanted them back, then I am going to assume that these weren't nobodies who were just nabbed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I hate to be calloused, but American servicemen and women volunteer to die to keep America safe from exactly the kind of assholes we just handed over. Used to be that we didn't negotiate with terrorists. I guess that's one more thing to add to the 'Good Ol' Days' list. You can let me have it all you want, but that's my opinion and I ain't changing it. |

Some points:
1. Like it or not, the war in Afghanistan is winding down. Prisoner swaps happen at the end of every war. 2. Even if he did desert, he should be tried by Court martial, and do his time, not rot in a cave forever, and remain a permanent MIA/POW |

Could we charter an airline from a Muslim country to take the Gitmo prisoners back to 'stan? Maybe, I don't know, someone like Malaysia Airlines. Maybe they have a 777 for charter.

Quoted: Some points: 1. Like it or not, the war in Afghanistan is winding down. Prisoner swaps happen at the end of every war. View Quote Prisoner swaps happen between recognized governments when both sides agree to stop fighting. The whole point of that war was to destroy the Taliban and Al Queda, force them from power in Afghanistan and leave a democratic government behind which is capable of securing the country from extremists. That may have been a bit ambitious and foolishly hopeful, but handing the exact kind of cocksuckers that we sent our troops over there to bring to justice or kill just doesn't seem reasonable to me. |

Watching the various posts on FB. This came from a post commenting on the story from an Idaho paper:
From one of his own: He was at OP Mest, Paktika Province, Afghanistan. It was a small outpost where B Co 1-501st INF (Airbone) ran operations out of, just an Infantry platoon and ANA counterparts there. The place was an Afghan graveyard. Bergdahl had been acting a little strange, telling people he wanted to "walk the earth" and kept a little journal talking about how he was meant for better things. No one thought anything about it. He was a little “out there”. Next morning he's gone. We search everywhere, and can't find him. He left his weapon, his kit, and other sensitive items. He only took some water, a compass and a knife. We find some afghan kids shortly after who saw an american walking north asking about where the taliban are. We get hits on our voice interceptor that Taliban has him, and we were close. We come to realize that the kid deserted his post, snuck out of camp and sought out Taliban… to join them. We were in a defensive position at OP Mest, where your focus is to keep people out. He knew where the blind spots were to slip out and that's what he did. It was supposed to be a 4-day mission but turned into several months of active searching. Everyone was spun up to find this guy. News outlets all over the country were putting out false information. It was hard to see, especially when we knew the truth about what happened and we lost good men trying to find him. PFC Matthew Michael Martinek, Staff Sgt. Kurt Robert Curtiss, SSG Clayton Bowen, PFC Morris Walker, SSG Michael Murphrey, 2LT Darryn Andrews, were all KIA from our unit who died looking for Bergdahl. Many others from various units were wounded or killed while actively looking for Bergdahl. Fighting Increased. IEDs and enemy ambushes increased. The Taliban knew that we were looking for him in high numbers and our movements were predictable. Because of Bergdahl, more men were out in danger, and more attacks on friendly camps and positions were conducted while we were out looking for him. His actions impacted the region more than anyone wants to admit. There is also no way to know what he told the Taliban: Our movements, locations, tactics, weak points on vehicles and other things for the enemy to exploit are just a few possibilities. The Government knows full well that he deserted. It looks bad and is a good propaganda piece for the Taliban. They refuse to acknowledge it. Hell they even promoted him to Sergeant which makes me sick. I feel for his family who only want their son/brother back. They don’t know the truth, or refuse to acknowledge it as well. What he did affected his family and his whole town back home, who don’t know the truth. Either way what matters is that good men died because of him. He has been lying on all those Taliban videos about everything since his “capture”. If he ever returns, he should be tried under the UCMJ for being a deserter and judged for what he did. Bergdahl is not a hero, he is not a soldier or an Infantryman. He failed his brothers. Now, sons and daughters are growing up without their fathers who died for him and he will have to face that truth someday. View Quote |

isnt too much to ask to chip one of them then drop a jdam on all of them once we left? View Quote I wish this was what was going to happen, but with the current political leaders there is no way. Sadly this is no surprise.
To anyone who knew good men that were wounded or killed looking for this jackass - my apologies. Another sucker punch to our military by an adminstration that has NO respect for our warriors. The repugnent actions of this admistration knows no bounds. Just an FYI to those unaware: From Michelle Malkin: Prior to becoming at Attorney General of the United States, Eric Holder was a senior partner with Covington & Burling, a prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm, which represents 17 Yemenis currently held at Gitmo. Covington & Burling’s Gitmo bar roster has included some of the most radical detainee advocates; see David Remes, who peeled down to his underwear at a press conference in Yemen to draw attention to his clients’ plight and Marc Falkoff, who published a book of detainee poetry and who, in the book’s intro, compared their heroic struggle to the Jews held in concentration camps and Japanese Americans held in internment camps during WWII. [One of Falkoff's "gentle, thoughtful" young poets--a Kuwaiti "cleared for release" and repatriated in 2005--blew himself up in a truck bomb in Mosul last March, killing 13 Iraqi army soldiers and wounding 42 others.] The fact that Mr. Holder, while Deputy Attorney General, pushed for the release of 16 violent FALN terrorists against the advice of the FBI, the US Attorneys who prosecuted them and the NYPD officers who were maimed by them, suggests that he was perfectly willing to put politics before the national security interests of the country. He is not suited for the job of attorney general, which is central to the issues surrounding the disposition of war on terror detainees. |
