Money buys loyalty. Even if the lender does not intend it to be so. Cruz will never forget. At least that will be the narrative.
The guy that wrote The Big Short wrote another fact base story, Liars Poker. In Liars Poker, a lowly mail room employee had a wife that got sick. His employer generously took care of all the expenses without blinking, even though they were under no obligation to. The employee was forever loyal as he could not fathom anyone else doing such a thing for a low level worker. He became one on the most important traders on Wall Street and took that company to the top. |

Gross, a former election commission lawyer who specializes in campaign finance law, said that listing a bank loan in an annual Senate ethics report — which deals only with personal finances — would not satisfy the requirement that it be promptly disclosed to election officials during a campaign. “They’re two different reporting regimes,” he said. “The law says if you get a loan for the purpose of funding a campaign, you have to show the original source of the loan, the terms of the loan and you even have to provide a copy of the loan document to the Federal Election Commission.” |

I'm more interested in Ted Cruz's response to this, rather than freaking out about it too much. If he doesn't address it correctly, it's an albatross around his neck that could make him look like a phoney Tea Party republican like nearly all of them have turned out to be - all talk, but behind the scenes it's business as usual.
In a race where his biggest opponent is the guy saying "I'm not beholden to any special interests", having "Secret Goldman-Sachs Money" tattooed on your forehead is a kiss of death. I won't speak to any legalities, because I know nothing about that. I am only speaking to what voters might perceive. |
