I've been living 90mi from the Texas Border for 30 years ...been all over it.  Once you spend a lot of time in SC you'll know they are as different as night and day

I'm a native born Texan, (left when I was a kid) but spent a ton of time in SC when I was stationed at Fort Bragg.. and will either be moving to Texas or SC as my long term home.
I'm torn as to where to go though.

Which is best?
Texas gun laws vs SC gun laws
Texas bbq vs SC bbq
Texas no state tax vs SC property taxes?
both have extremely low gas tax (mostly fed)

I'm torn between the two.

well I voted by buying a house in SC..closing in 2 weeks. Aint no worried about speaking Spanish there or it being a dem state ( and yea that mattered to me ) plus there is a PSA store 20 minutes from my house

SC is basically Texas East.

Born, raised, and still live in SC. Both of my brothers are now Texans, and I can see myself moving if the right opportunity arises. But overall, the similarities are remarkable.

Overall SC gun laws tend to be slightly better. I like SC bbq but I can easily see how people don’t. Love Texas brisket though. We homeschool, but the normal schools here are terrible. Property taxes are much lower here, but no income tax there. Both have some cool history, some interesting areas, and some really sucky areas.

The biggest negative to Texas, it looks like it’s a matter of time until the big cities turn it blue. That’s not on the radar here yet.

And wake up one day in a blue state.  WV is too wishy-washy when it comes to elections.

And what do they have food-wise, possum pie and pine cones?

Fucking Gino’s Pizza, Pepperoni rolls, Tudors, Big Loafer..

The fishing is better as well. The hunting is also better. The blue dog democrats however are an issue. And so are the unions. I’d rather it be purple than red or blue.

Man lots of haters in here from SC, you guys sound like douchebags. the Texas boys don't say that, they're like we're better, come here.
It's not like I'm trying to bring California with me.

Couple years ago, our work group met with Sony's Higher Education division. At the time it was headed up by an older guy from NJ. Thick NJ accent.  I'm sure he was just trying to be nice, but he was talking about how much he loved SC and when he retires he's seriously considering moving here.
I just blurted out a deadpan "We're full"
Whole damned room fell apart laughing.

I don’t speak Spanish, so South Carolina.

Neither. Too hot, muggy, and full of third world voters. Once my folks pass, I'll probably never venture down that way again.

SC. But I'm biased, having lived there for a couple years, and never having been to TX.
