Young people get behind it because they dont have any earning power yet.
As people age and their net worth increases, they dont like the idea of forcibly having their wealth taken away and given to others. That said, socialism on some levels is nearly mandatory to maintain a first world society now. Fire and school tax for instance. |

Gonna be yeeting 5.56 into people at some point.
Its hilarious that he admits that democratic socialists failed to curb authoritarians. That's exactly why people have issues with it. That's not even covering that most of the prominent voices in the current socialist movement want the dissolution of capitalism in general, which is not what Sweden and Denmark do. |

The economic vampirism from boomers and their brat kids caused this.
Also, the southern invasion has devastated lower middle class wages. Couple that with the fact boomers and their brats destroyed our schools we have a perfect storm. |

When I was a teenager I was a proud militant socialist.
I was anxiously looking forward to the day when I could fill ditches with the irrelevant, evil and corrupt enemies of the revolution. Cut down human civilization to an ecologically manageable level. I saw how evil that was and tried to live a more peaceful life. I consciously spent time around the people I had wanted to exterminate and found they weren't what I was told they were. Now all I can think about is, "how tall do you have to be to ride the helicopter? What are the criterias and standards going to be when these people start getting dropped from a C130 into the ocean? Do you have to be older than 11? 23? If someone says, "I give up, I won't be a socialist anymore" right before the drop commences does that mean it's not okay to drop that person?" I think I'm going to have to start asking, everyone I know. 'Are you willing to die for your ideas? Are you willing to kill for your ideas?" and perhaps most importantly, "are you willing to commit mass murder for your ideas?" Are you? I don't think I can. And so we come to the ultimate irony of socalisim and communism. By its very existence it seems to demand a disproportionate response. Once the bodies start stacking up, the stacks increase steadily. And the best anyone can hope for in the way of an ending is this. |

For lack of a better way to describe it they are both incredibly soft and hard at the same time. They have unlimited access to vast storehouses of knowledge. They can go out and see or do practically anything. Yet they have lived lives insulated from many of the hardships that have defined our species for thousands of years. And because they are oh so smart any of them with more than three brain cells know exactly what's coming for them. Things are going to get very interesting when the standard of living starts to drop. 100% of my friends believe universal basic income is the only way forward. These are all young professionals in their early 30s earning $80,000+ per year.

Everyone who romanticizes socialism/communism seem to always forget or intentionally ignore the fact To make it work, there has to be the threat of violence via the government. All those who are ruled under it are equal(ly poor) and those who rule are generally well off.
