What new-in-box, iron sighted bolt rifle in .308 has a similar OAL, threaded barrel, and is cheaper?  I'm a little curious about this.  @W_E_G.

And if you're going to say the Mossberg Scout, that thing sucks.  The only place where it's a good rifle is in theory.

Take an 11.5" 6.5 Grendel with the 129gr ABLR (factory load BTW) and shoot it next to a 20" .30-30 with the 150gr Hornady RN:

11.5" 6.5 Grendel with a 129gr ABLR gives you:

100yds 2066fps 1223ft-lbs
200yds 1928fps 1065ft-lbs
300yds 1796fps 924ft-lbs
400yds 1671fps 800ft-lb

20" barreled .30-30 with a 150gr RN Hornady:

100yds 1879fps 1176ft-lbs
175yds 1599fps 852ft-lbs
200yds 1515fps 764ft-lbs

An 11.5" 6.5 Grendel has more energy at 400yds shooting a lighter bullet, than a 20" .30-30 does at 200yds. This is one of the easiest ways to show the layman how effective BC is compared to a known cartridge that dates back to 1895, and has been used to harvest untold numbers of deer and even large game at close range.

That said, I still think lever guns are fun and an important historical step in looking for an action that would handle repeating capability with metallic cartridges.

@LRRPF52, I own firearms because they make me happy and put a smile on my face. Not everything needs a SHTF tacticool reason. Go through my safes and you find a bunch of guns that are easily outclassed in every way today by modern standards. Don't care. They're fun to own, shoot, hunt with, compete with, etc.

I did CWSEII with a 100 year old M1917 Rifle and Revolver. Why? Fun. I have a stack of lever actions for the same reason.

I measured it at just under 13”. It’s perfect for me. I don’t know why so many people are obsessed with LOP. I generally just adapt my shooting stance to whatever it is I’m shooting and don’t generally have problems.

It's 3/4" shorter than the regular stock. I don't notice the difference.

It needs a pad added to it anyway imo, the hard plastic buttplate sucks.

One of the reasons to I own a lever is PRECISELY that it isn’t an AR.

Politically its not on the radar, and during scarce ammo days it wasn’t an issue.

That is sweet. FWIW, my Cimarron 1860 Henry is the Civil War model, so it has sling swivels. My pic was pretty much right out of the box.

I'm late to the game, but I have an old Marlin 336 Marauder in .30-30 from the 60's.  It's basically the same gun, but with a straight stock rather than the pistol grip style on yours.  It's a great handling gun.  I have a compact Leupold scope on it with the side extension on the hammer for thumb cocking.  I like it. It's fun to shoot and has a hell of a muzzle blast.  If I didn't have AR pistols, it would be real high on my SHTF gun list.

https://www.marlinforum.com/articles/the-marauder-marlins-short-barreled-cowboy-gun.90/
As established by the National Firearms Act of 1934, rifles in the U.S. have to have a barrel of at least 16.1-inches overall in order to stay away from the bugaboo of a $200 tax stamp and registration as an SBR. With that in mind, the new 336 Marauder, debuted in 1963, had a 16.25-inch barrel and an overall length of just 34.5-inches with their straight grip stock. This handy little popgun is downright cute, even though it has a heck of a muzzle flash and a 4-shot magazine capacity due to its shorter tube.

Where are the iron sights?  So that you can shoot it right out of the box?

To be fair, though, 5 out of 6 ain't bad.

There are straight stocked 336s, but not the compact version unfortunately.

That being said, back in the day, the "pistol grip" stock option was considered an upgrade and wasn't cheap.  Look in any old catalogs in the early 1900s and you'll see Winchester charging extra for that option.

Me too. I've wondered if it was feasible and cost effective to do that.

400 for the 336Y seems reasonable. The Winchesters are always priced up in the stratosphere in my area.
