Looks like it's going to differ from the true ending of the story. Which is great because the true story was anticlimactic as far as revenge goes.

Well he did give the kid a lecture about being a man . . .

The other guy who left him joined the army for protection.

Remember, this is a fictional remake based on the 2002 book. Not even close.

Yes, but because it was filmed in CA the bear had to wear a condom.  It ruined the ambiance.

Netflix..

It's a thing for me, I guess...I can't see Leonardo in "man" roles.  He's just not...well, a man.

Permanent adolescent roles?  Sure.  Probably would be great as a chomo.  He was an awesome d'able, great Romeo, great Romeo again in Titanic, awesome (Romeo again) in The Beach, played another adolescent pre-man in Catch Me if You Can...but when he plays a real grown up, it doesn't ring true to me.

He was jarringly out of place in Gangs of New York, and his other "man" roles always felt hollow to me.

He didn't illegally watch anything, screeners are handed out to industry folks for award season.. Though I'm sure you're joking...

Watched The Revenant twice in the last 3 days (once alone and once with sons). It was an absolutely awesome movie. If DiCaprio doesn't finally win an Oscar, all hope is lost. It is based on the Hugh Glass story, and has a lot of brutal action. I don't think anybody could dislike this movie.

Incredible movie. The filmography was amazing, and the scenes were brutal. Just a great movie all around.

I can't think of another movie like it

I've watched it 3 times already and can't get enough.

Several continuous "one take" scenes that leave you wondering how long it took them to get it all right.

The tone is a little dark and depressing, but I somehow feel relaxed watching it. I don't know.

Another great film with DiCaprio. VERY good actor that is well deserving of several awards.

Saw it again, this time on the big screen with my dad.  Definitely see it on the big screen!  From the sounds of everyone around me, other theatre goers were really shaken by that bear attack.
Still.. it's a little long.

Where's the movie about Simon Kenton, Blue Jacket, Samuel Brady, Lew Wetzel and Tecumpseh?

I'd camp for that one.  Possibly the last years where a man could be truly free in the east.  It was dangerous as hell, but free and safe aren't necessarily bed mates.

I read that when I lived in the area.  That would be an awesome movie.  Simon Kenton was the real deal.

I kinda agree with this assessment though I still enjoy many of his roles. I really didn't like him in Gangs. Rightly or wrongly, what you describe sometimes peeks through to me in some of his roles and I just can't get past it.

Yea I liked him in that, but he was playing a young Police rookie so it was not a stretch as to what he is describing.

The Obama Western

The Revenant, the new Leonardo DiCaprio western, bids to be also the last western. That once-quintessential Hollywood genre has lost its popularity to sci-fi and comic-book flicks that trendily dramatize social tensions — along with offering escape into perpetual adolescence. The Revenant reworks the older westerns’ exploration of American history, and of the issues arising from the clash between civilization and perceived wilderness, into a spectacle replete with contemporary social distress. That makes it an Obama western. DiCaprio’s Hugh Glass, a guide and hunter for a fur-trading expedition in the 1820s, humbly embodies the country’s humane, multicultural hopes, yet he’s stuck amid venal, weak-principled countrymen. Burdened with the racist legacy of European settlers, Glass is haunted by the killing of his Pawnee wife and guards his biracial son. Glass’s ambivalence and fortitude are tested by his trouble with John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), a low-life among the government-sanctioned trappers. The unhinged, Bible-quoting carnivore Fitzgerald is a lying, killing incarnation of America’s evils.

Jesus, it's a fucking movie.

\Go tell that to someone out of work because of assorted libtard nonsense.   Things got to this point for a reason.
