False comparison. I don't shoot and make noise wherever the fuck I want. I am either at a gun range or private property, not doing drive bys throughout the country side at whatever fucking time I feel like shooting. View Quote Those making comparisons of shooting loud guns to loud exhausts on bikes, cars, trucks, etc. are showing the intellectual capacity of a 4 year old in developing their argument. Look, as I said earlier, I don't have an issue with the exhausts when the riders or drivers aren't obnoxious. Driving down the road as a safety device or to just enjoy the sound of an engine? No problem. Revving the absolute shit out of it on a residential or small city street with people walking or dining? You're an attention-whore jackass. Have some respect for others around you. The damn things ARE loud. |

I don't understand how an open exhaust on a motorcycle sounds good to anyone, it just sounds like hundreds of pounds of poverty rolling down the road. |

I'm not a fan of obnoxiously loud pipes but claiming it's damaging your hearing is ridiculous. That's on the same level as people who claim that people shooting is damaging their hearing or giving the ptsd. The earplugs are usually for wind noise, not the exhaust. View Quote |

A properly timed and tuned sbc or sbf through Flowmaster mufflers is the next best sound to that of a female orgasm....not even remotely comparable to the wretched sound of a shit box Harley with no mufflers being intentionally revved to draw attention to its toothless owner.

I just want them to admit the real purpose is because they think they're cool and it makes them feel warm and fuzzy to turn gasoline into noise. Just be honest about it. Same reason you NEVER see a Harley rider wearing a helmet let alone full face one that protects their entire head. It clashes with the image and isn't as cool. I can't stand when bikers rev up just to be loud as possible.
I like a throaty low deep sound on a bike, but when it very loud I just get annoyed. Harleys are cool, but obnoxiously loud exhaust is lame. Those guys either just bought the bike and is showing off, or just has low self esteem. |

I was taught a long time ago that my right to swing my fist ends where someone else's nose begins. So how is it some attention-whoring fag* gets to have those obnoxiously loud pipes on their motorcycles when it hurts my ears? I get all the talk about "muh rights" and "sound of liberty" and whatnot, but when it's actually causing me pain, why do they get a pass? It's because of thoughtless assholes that go out of their way to be complete and total cunts that we end up with people saying "somebody needs to do something" which invariably leads to more laws. Out on the highway I really don't care so much 'cause there's plenty of noise around. Although I'll be honest, when these asshats do the whip-around pass at speed limit +20+ and pipes roaring, just know I'm doing all I can to keep from jerking the wheel and running their shit into a ditch. Just the rebel in me, I guess.

You're an exception. I've honestly NEVER seen a Harley rider with one on here. Anyway it wasn't a rant. I don't really care, I'm just calling it like it is. They claim loud pipes are for safety and then don't wear a helmet. Does not compute other than both of those issues are about projecting an image to look cool and load up on warm fuzzy feelings. The funny thing is one is a very real and tangible way to improve your safety when riding and can very easily be shown how it is likely to save your life. The other has no quantifiable measure of added safety. View Quote |

I've made critical comments on Arfcom about loud pipes, and my position is still valid today.
I don't have a problem with loud pipes on the roads. It's a road. People drive on it. That said, when you get into residential neighborhoods, a DECENT person with a loud vehicle either A.) avoids the neighborhood or B.) makes efforts to keep the noise output low as possible. They certainly don't "joyride" through those neighborhoods. Being in a rural area, I really didn't worry much about this until a Memorial Day Biker rally started a few years ago nearby. Since then, it is nothing to have bikers revving their engines LONG past sunset as they joyride through the community. You cannot make the analogy of shooting firearms. Rarely, if ever, does someone bring their firearms into your community and fire them. If they do, it is either private property (talk to your neighbor) or a range (where there is existing laws to address.) I realize my experience with the rally isn't the same as incidental contact on the road. It is more of a study in where loud pipes mean you are a piece of shit. Keep it on the road, and I don't care. |
