Rule 1- never lead
Rule 2- use Waze Rule 3- 9 over will rarely get a cop's attention Some places like the 10 over in town, but you hit the highway and 10 over is probably still ok. Traffic guys here use 15 as their line to stop and cite. I wouldn't stop until it was 20 over and I had no problem staying awake with it. |

Nearly every day on the highway.. Yes please pass me, you are now the HVT, when my detectors flips out I'd love to flash my lights as I slow down, but you'd probably road rage if you don't get pulled over first. |

I use the Redline 360 in conjuction with Wayze. Really only a couple benefits over the Uniden R8, the crowdsourced GPS and the radar detector shielding (can't be detected by a radar detector detector).
The crowdsourced GPS alterts is really nice. |

This is largely because there are no points till 15 over and locals can't even enforce less than 10 over outside of school or work zones. |

Curves and Hills became a non issue in the early 80's, when manufacturers (Escort and Whistler Q1000 being the first) started using super heterodyne in their detectors. Super Heterodyne is no longer used. Modern detectors are now passive, with hardly any emissions given off, which is a big f*ck you to 'Spectre' units. Which is ironic, because Spectre RDD's give off more emissions than mobile RADAR units. Radenso has already worked Spectre RDD emissions into Theia. If only Radenso would release Theia into the wild. One technique that I use a lot but I haven't seen mentioned yet....scanning the road as far ahead of you that you can,
and looking for brake lights. As soon as they spot a police car on the side of the road, people will hit their brakes, even if they're NOT speeding. Gives a good warning in advance that traffic enforcement is ahead....simple but surprisingly effective. Question for those that know.... is "K" band obsolete? Everyone in my area seems to run "Ka" band..... "K" band is mainly collision avoidance systems. Do radar guns normally have the ability to switch from "K" to "Ka" bands or is it one or the other? Does using "K" or "Ka" band give better results? Thanks, AoD |

R4 here which is non-directional R8. I have used it all over Texas with great success. On the interstates I can pick up KA DPS like 2-3 miles out easy.
I am now "lazy" and only scan KA since 99.9% of radar in Texas is that. Keep the detector super quiet until there is something real. I am a beta tester for V1Driver app which works very nice. |

FWIW, I paid 400 for each of our DS-1's. If you get one, be sure to go to the firmware updates page. Also, if you're confused by all the settings and modes, I'll try and help you out with that. There are some things you can outright shut off. Others you can change to 99.9 percent eliminate the Lane Change and Collision Avoidance Systems falsing of other vehicles, and the traffic flow RADAR's in some areas. Had one in college 30 years ago, don't see the need. On the highway you can safely do 75 with nobody bothering you so long as you're not being reckless weaving in and out, cutting people off, or riding somebody's tail aggressively. Waze gives me a pretty good heads-up. Haven't ever had a speeding ticket in 35+ years driving.
Those units look (1) pretty expensive, and (2) a target for thieves. Do you take it down all the time or do thieves just not care any longer? |
