Glad others thought of 4sevens as a great light company a few years ago. I had bought a number of there units and all still work but have definitely been surpassed. Thought I was imagining them as a tier 1 edc brand. Lol

Last I remember them saying they were doing was Bluetooth Controllable/ programmable lights. Then the next year at shot show nothing just same ole stuff. The following year the same thing. After that I wrote them off as a dead brand.

I need a new edc light. Got a new Olight IE3eos from the IV8888 shoot. Hate the color but so far been impressed with it for the size. It’s somewhat satisfied my search but not what I was looking for.

Thank you for the eBay link, though $60 is a tad more than I’m willing to pay.

I pocket carried that little CR2 light for many years.  I bought the larger CR123 light, but that light was just large enough that it was annoying as a pocket carry light.  That little CR2 light disappeared in my pocket.

My late father-in-law used to always carry a crappy AA light with him.   This was in the day before every cell phone had a light.  I asked him why he carried that light. His reply was that he was in the restroom at work when the building lost power.  He said it was damn tough to wipe one’s ass in complete darkness.  That’s when I started carrying a light daily.

You’re right about the standard AAA one, though. I think there’s even a thread currently running here, where you can get them for like $12 on Amazon. I’ll pass on the 45 lumens.

I carried a 4sevens Quark for 10+ years. Fantastic light, and it was so ahead of its time it was still relevant when I retired it.

I stumbled across this brand a few years ago, and my god they joy - its the 4sevens Quark (exact UI and form factor) but now with modern LED's and takes 18650's in addition to 2xCR123.

Best EDC light on the market in my book.

My main use of lights is a pocket light that I can clip on my hat at work. I work on elevators with aging eyes. I need all the light I can get. and I REQUIRE a reverse pocket clip which almost no one makes anymore. I am using a slew of discontinued O-light S2 batons and one new s3 but the S3 has uber agressive texture under the pocket clip that has destroyed my hat bill in less than a month. I dont understand why reverse pocket clips are so hard to find.

My surefire 300 will light up anything to the woodline in the back of the house. I have a 1,000 lum streamlight stinger that reaches to the barn and up to the old house. My maglite LEDs and 6P/G3s with makoff drop ins are my every day lights. Still got some older less bright flashlights and headlamps because when I work on something up close with my eyesight the way it is right now bright lights are too bright and I can't see good. I've even still got a M3 Tactical Illuminator on a glock.

The cost to convert is worse than grabbing a olight archer or arkfeld to replace the old design. Flashlight tech is in a real good place with a lot of competition. Lots of choices. I just replaced an old stream light stylus pro that I thought was very handy until I used the microstream rechargeable. Half the size, rechargeable, lighter, just better.

Yes.

That's pretty common for those things. Heat protection / batt voltage drop, that sort of thing.

I got one of these:

https://www.ridgid.com/us/en/gen5x-18v-dual-power-light-cannon

Takes either the batts or 12v cig lighter plug in. Works really well, doesn't dim one bit, it just blinks the light at you when the batt is about to go out. Has a dial on the back that lets you turn the brightness down. I get about ~45m of use out of my 1.5 ah batts on full brightness.

It does NOT like rain or wet though.

I remember hanging out at CPF in the old days when all these LED lights started to emerge.  Exciting times.

I'm not suggesting this is Tier 1 but my EDC light the last year has been a Lumintop Tool 2.0.  It has been great.  Small, multi-mode, comes with a rechargeable 14500 (with USB-C port) and runs on AA batteries also.  Came with a hat clip and a couple other accessories for $20.

I have a bunch of Fenix lights and they have been good for the most part.  My nightstand light is a Fenix PD35 with 18650.

For many years, I just used AA lights and Eneloops but I eventually moved on to 14500 and 18650 lights.  The battery performance is way better than AA and I can recharge them with my cell phone charger which is basically always with me.  Part of the advancement in flashlight tech is better batteries and buck-boost circuits in the lights instead of just connecting a bulb filament across raw battery terminals.

I bought a pile of them and just leave them mounted on most gun's I have, that have a rail.  It costs nothing.  It weights nothing.  It adds almost no bulk to most any rifle.

$25, 500 lumen. (plus laser).  There's several guys making various flavors of these to chose from, this is just one example.

Posted at bottom of page 1.

It's Chinesium of course, but so far so good.  Amd the "500" I apparently "450" in the actual texh details.  I will say it's stupid bright for such a tiny light, and that number might even be true - maybe.  It's way brighter than you will expect just looking at it, I'll say that.

On board USB battery, which means more efficicient space usage battery density - but when it's dead, your done.  And I can't say how long it's shelf life is on a charge.

But again, on the cheap, it's $25.

I just ordered another anemic 45 lumen Microstream...

This one's for an experiment, though.

I found out that you can get 200+ lumens out of them by using a 10440 instead of AAA, which makes sense because that's basically what's in the 250 lumen USB version.

Now I just need to find a reputable brand of battery. Everything on Amazon looks rather suspect.

I remember the mid 2000’s reading here than anything above 100 lumens will blind you in a CQB scenario. Incandescent was still superior to LED.

Now a $17 two pack of LED headlamps have 1200 lumens.

The advancement of tech with flashlights is mind boggling.

What was cutting edge 3-5 years ago is downright antiquated.

All of my lights are old tech, but I feel like I’m wasting my money buying anything new because it will be out of date in a year or two.

Anyone care to explain what the hell is going on in the flashlight world? Will we ever plateau?

Early gen LED flashlights were like this.  They've gone to a lot of trouble to get more flood out of the tech to fix it.  Not a big fan personally of laser-focused lights;  it's dark - how do I know where to point it?  What else is around?  LED is so potent, having a bit of dispersion is good, and you can afford it.
