Every Camaro thread should feature Whitesnake. It's just the fucking rules.

They handle awesome. My t tops squeaked until I welded in subframe connectors, now they are quiet. I always have a grin on my face when I drive it, I just wish I could hook up without pulling 50% of the pedal.

Haters aside, back in the day, they were badass and sexy. Still are sexy machines, IMO. View Quote |

I’ve been wanting one since I sold my second gen. Just to drive it to work.

No, I'm not white trash. View Quote Christ I hated those things! Grew up outside Eugene Oregon and every dirtbag meth enthusiast had one, usually up on blocks. It was odd to see one moving, but when they did you could see that they weren't going to be on the road for long. For a functional vehicle they would usually have either a almost clapped out Honda Civic or a lifted truck that they would run me off the road with. If an Iroc or a bargain basement bro dozer wants to run me off the road nowadays I wouldn't hesitate to unload a carbine into it. |

They were great looking cars, with good engines and lots of power.
The problem was, the rest of the car was econobox cheap. The early steering wheels and seats weren't fit for a go cart. Low quality plastic garbage everywhere in the interior. The salesmen just let kids in their late teens and early twenties test drive these things and told them to punch it and they were sold, if Daddy and Momma gave them the cash. The problem was insurance cost for young people. My sister took one for a test drive, and ended up with a Nissan 300 instead. Smart choice. |

I've had many third gens over the years, all of them were race cars (for street).
Good times. |

They where cheap and poorly constructed...but they sure where sexy looking.

One of the Cheerleader's at my HS got one from her dad brand new. It was red and beautiful. She pulled out of the hangout McDonalds hard on the 2nd day she had it, nicked the curb and flipped it over against a tree. The crowd ran over and had to bust open the hatch to get her out. It was weird seeing this super-shiny car upside down against a tree

My only Camaro was the first new car I ever bought, a '69 Z28. My ex loved that car and was not happy when I traded it in.

As a 1987 graduate on Long Island the IROC was the hard on ride of all the guidos with the Cavarcci pants, mock turtlenecks and booming club music. You know: I talian R etard O ut C rusing Yup, I always wanted one especially when the 350 TPI was powering it. View Quote On top of that Camaros and Firebirds were built locally in St Therese Quebec. My client owns the building where SLP modified the special editions. You can say that I've seen a few. I've always been a Mustang guy myself. |

When I was in high school, one of the metal heads had a brand new one. At the time I thought it was a cool car. Now a days. Not so much.
|
|
I barely recognized it without it being on blocks between the trampoline and trailer.

We had one in auto shop as a demo car when I was in high school.
Working on that thing scarred me on F-Bodies for the rest of my life. |

When I was in High School (late 80's) the IROC Z and Grand National were pretty big deals. The Grand National was all power no handling, literally.

Buddy had an IROC with the 350 back in the day. He had some work in the motor so it was pretty quick, but the car itself was a rattle trap piece of crap.

My dad bought a red 1985 IROC-Z for my mom to replace the painfully slow 1983 Camero Berlinetta 2.8l she had. Sticker price was $16404.
Nice cars for their day. |

Neighbor has one with some 400 cubic inch stroker motor, thing is seriously fast, think he runs low 11s.
The car is a damn rattle trap because that screaming engine twists the windows out of it every time he stomps on the pedal. |

They were beautiful. Just try not to think about horsepower numbers compared to today's cars.

Formulas were the best thirdgens. They got all the performance options while remaining light weight and stereotype free.
Chassis reinforcements are a good idea on these cars. Go T56 or go home. Any engine that came with a carburetor belongs in the trashcan. TPI provided a much needed performance boost at the time, but the intakes are restrictive and overly complicated. There are better aftermarket options now. These days it makes a lot more sense to just do an LS swap. Attached File Attached File Attached File |
