I earned a few, but this is my favorite, since it was earned from actual combat, not just being in theater. Unfortunately, the local change to the DCU patch was not carried over to the official UCP or OCP patch. Only while I was deployed, was the Indianhead facing forward on my right sleeve. It is one of my most prized possessions.
Mosul, 2003-2004. If you know, you know. I know there are a few others here. Attached File |

My combat patches are from just being whored out as ETT. I got to see a fair amount of two way range activities and being blown up fucking sucks. |

Quoted: Cool. My grandfather was in the 8th infantry. I don't believe he's one of those 1000 men tho. What's the story behind that? @Clarinath View Quote During Desert Storm Units from 8th ID, stationed in Germany with the 5th Corps, were attached to 3rd Armored Division (7th Corps), to round out their numbers. I don’t know the exact numbers, but it was pretty low. Right after Desert Storm, 8th ID was deactivated. We can wear either the 3rd Armored or the 8th ID. |

Quoted: I got to Baumholder in late 91, My orders were to 8th ID, but we had already reflagged to 1AD (1-13 In to 3-12 In) Even in Baumholder, 8thID Combat patch was hens teeth. View Quote I was in Lee Barracks in Mainz and the base was completely shut down by December 91. I left in October, but most of the guys were already gone. We were slowly moved into the HHC building as the drawdown happened after we got back from Saudi in May. |

One of the physicians that went with us to OIF1 was pretty cool. E7 maintenance SFC that went to become a CW4 maintenance chief-all of a sudden in his 40s said “I’m going to med school.”
He was a early 50’s CPT in OIF1 ended up deploying almost 8 years total in 90-179 day tours to Iraq Afghanistan and elsewhere until he was forced retired in his 60’s in 2012-13. He had a roll of the fuzzy Velcro sewn to his right upper acu shirts about 4 feet long and had his 20 or so combat patches stuck there. He would flip it out and rearrange them as desired. |

Quoted: There's got to be someone around here that rates the 1st or 2nd MarDiv patch as their combat patch. I think there was a brouhaha about it with senior Army leadership and they stopped letting them wear them, but I remember seeing a bunch of soldiers wearing one of those 2 patches in Iraq as their combat patch.
