I spent the last decade or so waving at the infantry guarding the gate as I went through to go out to the war.

My son is infantry, and I spent my first deployment as a 19k in an infantry company so I have love for the grunts, but you can also save the blanket romantic idealism for somebody else.

I was 11B then evolved into aviation maintenance. I found out after lp/op duty, sketching my range card showing fields of fire with dead zones, Camoflaging deuce and a half then carried toolbox to fix or pre/post flight inspections on the AH64. Drag toolbox back to the TOC lock it up then man my foxhole that later became a fighting position. Lots of 11B skills and work for aviation field units. Not much maintenance except for dailies on the vehicle if you were the driver. I don't know how it is now.

True

But recovery for me was cleaning a rifle and gear.

As a former 19D who experienced the post field vehicle maintenance, I was happy to convert to the Infantry.

Then we go to Afghanistan, no tanks and we all ended up with vehicles.

I have seen female MPs come back from firefights and seen a mechanic do heroic things.

There are no blue cords in a firefight.

Last deployment without one of the best SSG mechanics, we could have never accomplished many missions.

Never understood the division and rivalry between MOSs, when shit goes to shit you are happy to have all the help you can get.

Day we we're medavaced I was happy those docs were there.

Week later I was happy our mechanic scored us a new truck.

Other days even more happy when those CH47s landed, loved those guys.

SF is neither support nor infantry so there has to be more than 2 mos’s.

I get what op’s saying but warfare (especially modern warfare) isn’t so black and white anymore. There’s plenty of conflicts in the last 20 years where it’s air campaign only with no infantry in sight.

Also… engineer’s lead the way. Infantry supports the engineers during the breach

Now, while most MOS is support infantry, it is a bit like husbands and pretty much all of society supporting mothers. They do it with no gratitude and all the infantry does this bitch and complain.

One of the non infantry units I served I was motorized but the CO assigned me to the dismount squad. Anyway we had a recovery crew I can’t recall what that MOS is that had to recover several of our vehicles in RCP A and RCP B

I learned real fast to befriend you guys so my paperwork was right and my pay was gtg. We had a guy at A/1/19 GP SSG Houlihan who got booted off the ODAs and took supply MOS then admin and he ducked at processing paperwork. Major Allen tried to get him removed from the unit.

One of my best buds started out 0621

Went through BRC when the opportunity presented itself, but retained the 0621 MOS

When MARSOC was created he went to 1st MRB, still as 0621

When the Raiders got their own MOS he changed to 0372 which meant he had to go through SOI after deploying on a Raider team twice
